A monster concept:

Anyone who knows anything about fantasy settings, especially DND, knows about mimics. They're monsters disguised as seemingly harmless objects that lie in wait for an unsuspecting victim to interact with them. Probably the most classic, well-known example is the mimic disguised as a treasure chest that tries to eat you if you open it.

So picture this: You're exploring a remote dungeon with a small party, and you find a chest. You rush ahead to open it, and (you guessed it!) it's a mimic. You're promptly grabbed and pulled inside, the lid closing shut behind you. The rest of your party doesn't even have time to react. They also surmise that this mimic is definitely too tough to try fighting it, so they take a moment to mourn your tragic death before continuing on their way.

What they don't realize is, you're not dead. Turns out, this is a very rare mimic that does not digest its victims. Its "stomach" is lined with countless tendrils that mercilessly tickle you for as long as you remain inside of it, adapting very quickly to your particular ticklish spots.

They also don't know that it's a relatively weak monster when it's full. They could have gotten you out very easily, but why would they think to try? They can't hear your screams of laughter from inside the chest, and they're very sure that they just witnessed you being eaten. Why would they try to rescue someone they have no reason to think might still be alive?

The way they just cry out “babe” or “baby” in between their hysterical laughs and cackles. So cute @micklaughs
