The creative mind trip

This tape has been on repeat for the last week. I’ve been a fan of rap that is personal and intimate and Tut landed in my peripheral when I was checking for the Isaiah Rashad tape. Tut has similarities to Isaiah Rashad in that he raps about his local area and situation. There’s no high concept here and no talk about big topics which in this case is refreshing. Instead we get a tape detailing the travails about a young man who is battling life on many fronts and thus has to combat those ills whilst still trying to get through the issues seen by any black youth in the inner city. The beats are smooth and incorporate some live instrumentation which comes to good effect as the saxophones, bass guitar and keys augment already solid production. The various stories chime perfectly throughout the tape and it is evident that Tut is ready to come out the shadow of the Isaiah Rashad who’s been holding Chattanooga up for the world to see up to now.
