Witchcraft, Wisdom, Death...
nakedness, merriment, poetry
Wine, Witchcraft, Fun
Okay, I take that.
Naked Then Bad. Okay, I'm in. Let's see where this goes. `;)
I just want to remind everyone how affordable buying food from indigenous tribes is. I live in a major city and I was able to purchase and ship (15) pounds of fish from back home to myself for cheaper than I could buy it from a grocery store here in the city. Yeah, shipping has its own environmental factors but I was able to support an indigenous owned business while also getting my groceries at a lesser cost. (Buying in bulk is always a good idea if you’re planning on having something shipped to you)
Some tribal owned grocers that ship:
Bow and Arrow (Ute Mountain)
Native Harvest (White Earth)
Red Lake Fishery (Red Lake)
Wozupi (Mdewakanton Dakota)
Ramona Farms (Gila River)
Tanka Bars (Oglala)
Indian Pueblo Store (Pueblos)
Twisted Cedar Wine (Cedar Paiutes)
Ute Bison (Ute)
Seka Hills Olive Oil and Vinegars (Yocha Dehe Wintun)
She Nah Nam Seafood (Nisqually)
Sakari Botanicals (Inupiaq)
Honor the Earth (? Anishinaabe)
Nett Lake Wild Rice (Boise Forte Anishinaabe)
Passamaquoddy maple (Passamaquoddy)
BONUS: coffee :)
Yeego Coffee (Navajo)
Spirit Mountain Roasting (Yuma Quechan)
Birchbark Coffee (Anishinaabe)
Thunder Island Coffee (Shinnecock)
Small correction:
Honor the Earth is an organization founded by Winona Duke of the White Earth Nation (Anishinaabe/Ojibwe) with Amy Ray and Emily Saliers (LGBTQ musical duo Indigo Girls and long-time political activists.) You can buy Honor The Earth merch online to support the environmental work they do, specifically to help protest Enbridge Oil’s Line 3 Pipeline routed through tribal lands that endangers wild rice beds which are both a staple crop and sacred to Anishinaabeg.
However, Winona also heads up a hemp farm called Winona’s Hemp & Heritage Farm located on and run primarily by members of the White Earth Nation. It seeks to general local wealth for the tribe by encouraging the production of hemp as a fast-growing renewable and regenerative crop resource to be used for everything from non-plastic textiles/clothing, housing construction and insulation, food products, and CBD products! (They also grow other crops there such as heirloom varieties of corn, beans, squash, Jerusalem artichokes, potatoes, and ceremonial tobacco in an effort to help re-establish and increase tribal food sovereignty!)
They have both a brick-and-mortar shop called The Hemp Market Store and Coffee Shop in Osage MN where they sell their products and others by Indigenous-owned & -run companies! (They also sell those seasonal tribal heirloom crops there including Lakota squash and Ojibwe purple potatoes.)
But you can also buy many of their products online including hemp-fiber clothing, hemp tea, and hemp pasta. They also partnered with an experienced tribal herbalist to formulate CBD medicinal products like balms and oils (haven’t used it myself, but I the CBD balm for my mom for Christmas a few years back and she said it helped her chronic hip pain a lot.)
compiling some additional info from other reblogs + fixing some broken links
it looks like some shops’ products are seasonal and arent avaliable at this time of year (november 2023), but it may be at a different season

Hand-fasting sash I made for my son's and daughter-in-law's wedding. It's the first time I've done embroidery and I'm quite happy with it ( they are, too!)
- Green, white, and silver were their chosen wedding colors.
- Blue and red are the colors representing the words each/both choose for what marriage means to them (mostly based on Druidic and Wicca traditions).
- Circles throughout symbolizing the Summer Solstice, their wedding date.
- On the white side, the flowers around their names and wedding date are traditional Bohemian designs in honor of Tya's heritage.
- The style on the green side is generally Celtic (a good portion of Nathan's heritage and a style that resonates with both of them - the music list was amazing!).
- Tree of Life and endless knots represent the intertwining of their lives and growth / nurturing / life (Celtic and Norse traditions, although I couldn't fit all 9 roots of Yggdrasil).
- On either end are the masculine (sun) and feminine (moon) with one "protecting" the other, allowing the other the freedom from a safe place to explore, create, and become their best selves.
Fam PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF THE DEAD GODS
please please please no reblogs of exotic looking animals (ocelots, savannah cats, wolfdogs ecetera) when it is obvious these half- to fully wild animals are living as pets in someones house.
I can't talk about this enough, there are so many idiots who think they can manage wild animals only to get frustrated with them at some point because they just ARE NO PETS, and in the end it's people who work for animal welfare (like me), animal shelters and zoos who have to take over these poor creatures when it becomes clear that the owner fucked up or straight up died or got injured.
I know they look pretty and adorable and just super cool. But please don't.

Anyway.
For those of you aren’t aware and aren’t involved in NDN circles, the Supreme Court just declared that tribal territories and reservations are part of states and are under state jurisdiction, including in regards to charging someone and putting them on trial in state courts for crimes related to the tribe (as opposed to this being left up to tribal courts), undoing decades of precedent for the separation of tribal and state governments.
In a few months, the Supreme Court is also going to be giving a verdict on whether or not the Indian Child Welfare Act, the only thing keeping indigenous children with their families and communities instead of being “adopted” (trafficked) to white Christian families at every chance, is unconstitutional. This act is also dependent on the belief that tribes are sovereign nations and that giving our children to people outside of our tribes is akin to the US government taking Canadian children in the Canadian foster system and trying to adopt them out to American families.
If the ICWA falls, we’re going to see a modern Sixties Scoop, with Native children being stolen from their tribes and families and cultures and assimilated into white Christian society. This is not only traumatizing for the children and their families, it’s also a form of cultural genocide that has been used against us before and has devastating effects.
There are family members I never knew because they disappeared into the foster system as children.
This is the beginning of what’s going to be wave after wave of attacks on indigenous sovereignty and tribal governance. The Supreme Court, even with a Democratic majority, has historically decided against upholding indigenous sovereignty and tribal protection. We’re seeing genocide and forced assimilation become federal policy again.
The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday dramatically increased the power of states over Native American tribes and undercut its own 2020 ruling
To be clear, the court today holds that Indian country within a state’s territory is part of a state, not separate from a state,“ Kavanaugh wrote in a decision that scholars of Native American law said was a major departure from longstanding precedent.
Just to reinforce the reality of this, this isn’t some small potatoes, only once in a while relevant ruling. This affects the sovereignty of Native lands.
Not sure what I can say aside from the fact that this shit is disgusting.
Totally agree that this is a horrific act against the rights of Native people.
Add that to the list of recent rulings against women's rights to their own bodies and the gutting the USEPA... This court is a sham puppet and they should be thrown out with the rest of the trash!
This is the legacy of the worst president in US history. I hope there's a special place in Hell awaiting the orange ass-hat.

This caption will be long but important.
First of all, to remind (or tell) you who I am and where I’m from.
I am Ukrainian, and I lived in Ukraine, Odessa my whole life. Until early March or 2022 when I had to flee my home because of war.
Since then my life has been a whirlwind. To sum it all up briefly – me, my mother, my grandma who is 82, and our dog fled to Romania, moved multiple times traveling through the country with the help of the kindest locals, and after another month and making good good friends on the way who helped us on the level I'm still struggling to comprehend I was finally sure the situation for my family is stable.
The hospitality of Romanian people is also the reason for this post to have exactly this one art piece.
And because Romania is beautiful too.
Should I tell you I dreamt about seeing mountains? It came to life. But I hate the circumstances of this dream coming true. I can only wish to come back to Romanian Carpathians while not running from war.
Why “to come back” would you ask? Because after that month I moved further, but on my own. To France.
Yet worry not, I’m not alone here! (Though I’d still appreciate help from locals in terms of information and such. Please feel free to message me if you can spare a minute or two to talk about daily life 🙏)
What am I up to now? Looking for an on-site job in Paris as a game artist. Taking in freelance offers in the meantime (giving preference to commercial). If by chance you can help with my job search – you know what to do 🙌🏻 my DMs are open.
If you want to support me – my pa🌳on and other ways to help/donate are linked in bio. I have to warn I can’t promise any constant updates of my content though.
I of course want to thank the people who helped me through all the way♥️ Both with advice and donations they (you all, when you read this!) supported me immensely, literally keeping me going. You are the most amazing human beings, I’m grateful to you eternally, and I’m still astonished by how many you are.
I could have said much more, but for now it is what it is. Thank you for sparing a minute to read.
Small addition – I now have a life profile with pictures on Instagram – @joycetakespics. If you want, you can stop by and look at my yet-to-be magnificent collection of flower pics.
Another important part.
You might think I’ve come through a lot, but I'm in fact incredibly lucky compared to way too many other people in Ukraine.
⁉️What you can do to help not only me, but my people⁉️
First of all: Spread the information you see about war. Keep talking about it.
Both luckily and unfortunately we live at the times when awareness in social media is the greatest weapon, and the lack of it – even more so. It’s the part where you choose sides.
Secondly, donate.
There are hundreds of ways, destinations and options. Don’t ignore it if you have a coin to spare. There are reasons people ask for help, there always are.
If you won’t mind a hand at figuring out where to donate, I’ll try to share smaller Odessa volunteer accounts on insta stories (or twitter) when I can.

Writing prompt:
When you enter The Cozy Coven, you are drawn, or compelled, to one of the little alcoves behind one of the woven and adorned curtains. There you sit until you are served. There are no menus, no fare boards, no servers to recite the daily offerings. The proprietors know exactly what you need and, if they deem you worthy, or if they just take a liking to you, you will receive exactly that.
In previous visits, you've received exquisite cloth, the sweetest nectar, and the most sumptuous stew you'd ever tasted.
Today, it is the alcove behind the green curtain with gold-frosted beads that calls to you. You take your seat and find you are served a dull, black rock; and when you touch it, it hums.
I had a total TGIF-SHIT moment today. It lasted most of the morning. Imagine my disappointment.
Gaia sure showed us who's the April's Fool!
Was tagged by @iamaweretoad to spell my name in song titles.
This was way harder than expected. I need a much longer name to do justice to my music library!

"That sounds like a good idea......."-"Is there something bothering you with the idea?"-"No, the idea is GOOD.....🙂"
Can someone explain this to me?
Old people use quotation marks to indicate emphasis, as a substitute for italics (which many of them could not produce on the old typewriters they learned to write on), whereas young people use them to indicate sarcasm or falseness. They’re used as “scare quotes”.
And old people use ellipses simply to indicate a pause, or for some other incomprehensible reason I’m not aware of. But young people use ellipses to indicate passive-aggression.
So an old person could type something like:
how are things going with your “boyfriend”….
and what they mean is
How are things going with your boyfriend? [Im so excited for you, sweetie, and I wanna hear about it]
But a young person would interpret that sentence as
How are things going with your so-called boyfriend…. [I say, while seething with contempt for him and possibly for you too]
The linguistic difference across generations is beautifully explained here thank you
