Deltarune Chapter 5 just got announced in the Nintendo Direct!
Let's go over the trailer!
New enemy that looks a lot like Hathy!
Another enemy with some familiar looking smiles in those green flower pots...
All of the little NPCs get a battle now?? For some reason?? It looks like a lot of fun also is that GOKU
Looks like there's going to be a common theme of Japanese culture all-throughout! Yay! Also I have no idea what that feather is.
Ok. Obviously this is an attack from one of the souls in the Omega Flowey fight, so as suspected there will be direct or indirect ties to the souls in Undertale. Kris is shown fighting alone, and there doesn't appear to be anyone fighting them on the other side.
Kris, Susie, and Ralsei (not pictured here because I wanted to include those weird grapes? Bells? on the left.) sliding.
More of Ralsei flying/ everyone's running animations! They look so good!
Hooray! Deltarune Chapter 5 releases June 24th, 2026!
It’s so bizarre and I don’t know if what I’m describing makes even a lick of sense, but the way Berdly doesn’t seem to be acknowledged as anything other than a minor npc with slight relevance in game only makes me more convinced he’s going to be involved in the near future…
Because so many other times something goes unacknowledged or isn’t dwelled on for longer than a minute, even since the days of Undertale, there's a pretty good chance it has something to do with birds.
Here’s what I mean.
All of the amalgamates with known family are accounted for in Undertale’s epilogue and Deltarune’s graveyard… except Reaper Bird. Yet Everyman still seems to repeatedly show up on occasion.
In Undertale’s throne room, birds are singing and flowers are blooming. Flowers and floral imagery are incredibly important to Undertale, as seen by the Echo Flowers, the Golden Flowers and Flowey, along with the imagery of roses and their thorns… but the birds are just nice ambience from the surface I guess.
The ambience that plays in between the empty Castle Town and Card Kingdom, as well as right outside the Castle of the Chaos King is called Weird Birds. It also happens to be an Earthbound-esque synth described as “sine-wave birds” in the 6th anniversary livestream, but along with Gallery it remains unaddressed as of late. Again, is this just some chill ambience or what?
The Starwalker Bird right outside the first Egg Room, with a face and wings oddly resembling those of the ch4 titan. Unlike the original Starwalker, this one hasn’t made a reappearance, and I’m pretty sure half the player base only remembers it from Starwalker’s infamous line.
The rusty birdcage Kris uses to contain the Soul. Susie comments that she didn’t know they owned a bird or something, but still no explanation for where that came from or how they got it.
Spamton and the Addisons, Swatch and the Swatchlings, and even the Poppup encounters used for some additional characterization from Cyber City are oddly birdlike in design (the latter are described as “preening”, which Berdly also does according to battle flavour text). Also, the pipis clam caviar egg thingys. Honestly I’m not sure those are even going to be explained.
The normal npc from the librarby. The only Goner in Undertale lacking a non-monochrome counterpart until the release of Deltarune and it just so happens to be the one whose design more clearly resembles a bird when coloured in? Okay?
The allegedly useless bird from Jevil’s fight. Is that just meant to be an RNG gag or what because that sprite wasn’t just recycled from the bird in waterfall I checked. That’s the second time in ch1 a regular ass bird is played as a gag if we count the duck thrash machine.
The egg rooms. Obviously birds aren’t the only egg laying animal as seen by lizards, fish, monotremes, dinosaurs, etc. so that could mean anything. Were it not for Berdly’s desk being used to collect them. Is that also just a joke Because Birb?
The Guei encounters and the fire extinguisher rooster guy from the Dark Sanctuaries. The former are the closest thing we have to Reaper Bird considering they reference the deceased counterparts to the other amalgamates, and the latter ends up being what we need to get into the third sanctuary despite being played off as a loudmouthed rando with an overinflated ego. The most important of them all… and it’s just a plain old fire extinguisher. Y’know, the thing you need in case of emergency and the removal of which is actually a very bad idea because if a real fire starts we’re screwed?
The only physical description we have of Deltarune’s Angel thus far is that it apparently has feathered wings judging from Noelle’s nativity play costume she still keeps around. Surely that’s just because angels are known for being depicted with feathery wings, it has nothing to do with the feathery wings of birds I’m sure that’s not related at all.
If you look at these in isolation, it doesn’t look like anything’s off. Maybe Toby just thought the sign wave bgm sounded like weird bird calls and named the track that because it was funny. Maybe Spamton wasn’t meant to look birdlike at all and fans just like drawing the Addisons with avian features because they look cute. Maybe the feathered wings of the angel have nothing to do with birds at all.
But the more they pile up, the harder it gets to ignore them all or chalk it up to coincidence. At least that’s what happened when I started to notice them.
It's like the game has metaphorically created a negative space where the bird is not, which only intrigues me more considering the fact that we know there’s still things being kept from us and the story’s just passed the halfway point.
A rusty cage, an egg, a pair of feathered wings… and something you can’t quite remember.
I wonder what’s still missing.
ALSO. The last track in Chapter 2's OST on Bandcamp (and maybe elsewhere but I haven't checked) is THIS.
Thinking About That Dang ol' Prophecy Again
(Prophecy images sourced from the Deltarune Wiki)
A'ight fuckers, I don't know how to preface this, I just have thoughts about the Prophecy and I wanna talk about 'em, strap in
(Warning: Deltarune spoilers up to Chapter 4 (obviously), long post, some wild speculation later in)
This was really fun to read! And it's SO interesting to think of the final prophecy that way, I haven't heard that prediction before.
If this is something along the lines of the actual final prophecy, it would give the Weird Route even more meaning, since the girl could be Noelle, making Susie (unbeknownst to Susie) the love that meets her grave, and the player would change Noelle's love to Kris in order to save Susie.
Even more, the weird route only starts in chapter 2 (for a variety of reasons, mainly that Noelle is featured, but there's a reason I want to point out in particular) and specifically after Noelle gives Susie a lunchbox of chalk.
Alright. Lots of speculation ahead, stick with me.
I believe the dialogue choices we are given detail the various responses Kris has the thought of saying. The most common type of interaction being the dialogue you can say to Alvin, and the most extreme being the post-Noelle's-house red screen and blank dialogue choices I believe is meant to represent Kris's absolute speechlessness and inability to form a response to Susie's question.
Now, a large portion of the Weird Route's decisions are based on the dialogue choices. "Proceed", "We're something else", you know. Now, if Kris had thought to say these things (with the player of course, bringing out the worst in them by choosing these options) then it could be that Kris thought about the implications of doing the Weird Route.
What if Kris saw that lunchbox-of-chalk scene and realized Noelle was the girl, Susie was her love, and that meant Susie was going to die? Susie, who Kris had just spent the last day becoming good friends with?
I don't know if any of this adds up, but other than showing that Noelle likes Susie, it's interesting to think of what Kris thought when they (presumably) knew the prophecy's final tragedy and saw this love grow between two girls.
Thanks for the theory OP I liked it! I know my rb was almost entirely unrelated but it got me thinking and I wanted to say something about it
The way Gerson talks about what happens after chapter 5 makes me strongly believe Toby meant to have it reflect on his work on Deltarune.
In a way, he's set himself up so that if for whatever reason he cannot finish the grand tapestry of Deltarune, it would be an ending to Deltarune in and of itself.
I believe Toby has deeply (and often) thought about how Deltarune has become so intimidatingly grand in scale that not finishing it is a genuine and not all that unikely case - life happens.
And not just that, Gerson follows that up saying that after this author was consumed by his work, the pen was lying there for the next generation to pick up, to write the next chapter, but they never did.
Of course, one could imagine it's because the author was so renowned and talented that they felt it wasn't worth trying to follow it up.
In this, and in the UNDERTALE 10th Anniversary stream, Toby speaks vehemently that everyone should be better than that, and create for the sake of passion.
If Deltarune never gets finished by Toby, I hope the community recognizes and takes to heart these lessons and picks up the pen and finishes it themselves in a million different and individually beautiful ways.

There's been speculation on who is talking to us in the beginning of Deltarune.
It's commonly agreed to be Gaster, since his motif is present up until the font changes and the music cuts. At this point, I believe some other entity is speaking to us and hijacked whatever "connection" Gaster mentioned.
Above, I have screenshots from the beginnings of both games, meant to highlight how the player:
Names a character
Gets betrayed and is taught a harsh lesson of the world
Sees the scene get interrupted by Toriel
I firmly believe these connections are meant to hint that entity is Asriel, or some twisted version of him, like we see in UNDERTALE.
Not having a choice, or not being able to choose who you are is an extremely strong motif in the story of Deltarune, and the same applies for UNDERTALE and "kill or be killed."
Both stories (will) eventually refute the lesson and display its opposite - It's not "kill or be killed," and you CAN choose who you want to be in this world.
Maybe it seems repetitive to have the same twist in a second game, but remember that Deltarune is a parallel of UNDERTALE. There's countless examples of situations being the same in both games, from Asgore and Toriel, the dog monsters being friends, Onion-San, but there's also Catty and Bratty not being friends, and the old librarian not liking books, the complete absence of Papyrus.
So my point is, the parallels are there, but I could totally be wrong. Now, Chapter 5 likely has a lot to do with Flower King and in turn, flowers coming alive, so maybe we'll see some Flowey teasers there.
Thanks for reading!
If you look close enough into some black screens you can see your own reflection.
[ This scene is from a hidden room in the last dark world in CH4 ]
I firmly believe the player is the Angel of the prophecy.
In the Holiday House sequence, we are trapped under an Angel doll.
And I also believe "Heaven" is our own world. Real life.
Moving forward with this, it becomes all the more fun to analyze Heaven as it pertains to the Angel.
"Banish the ANGEL'S HEAVEN"? Don't you mean "Banish the PLAYER'S WORLD"? Sounds like a fitting end to the game to effectively cut the player off from the world of Deltarune.
"[Heaven], are you WATCHING?"? Don't you mean "All of you out there, are you watching?"?
This one's a bonus. I don't think this line should be taken seriously, but it's neat to see how it lines up with this theory.
Now, the alternative to this theory is that Noelle is the Angel. There's ample nods toward it - Noelle's Angel wings from the holiday pageant, dreaming to grow big angel wings and look back at it all, and being called "Angel" multiple times at this point - but the more subtle points about this theory come from the Weird Route.
As it has been left off, the ThornRing has once again been stuck onto Noelle, and her ability to act for herself may have in turn been revoked.
Only Toby knows for certain what this means in terms of banishing the Angel's Heaven, or any of the prophecy's potential changes in the Weird Route, but it's important to keep in mind how, like Catty says, the Angel could be anyone.
In Deltarune, the duality of Pink and Gold is present in so many sprites but never meaningfully addressed.
I believe Pink = Hope, and Gold = Dreams.
Gerson's mention of the Field of Pink and Gold led me to think it was meant to parallel the song name at the beginning of Chapter 1, "The Field of Hopes and Dreams."
This song name/handle doesn't appear for any other song, and I believe that's for a reason.
This connection between Pink and Gold // Hopes and Dreams holds true in the case of Susie and Noelle's case, wherein Noelle's introduction as a character is entirely within what she thinks is a dream, and Susie's piece of the prophecy states "At last was the girl, with hope crossed on her heart." (let's ignore the fact that she's wielding a sword)
However, this theory lacks direction when one looks at the other sprites of Pink and Gold. Why does each secret boss (except the Knight) have Pink and Gold? Why Asgore? Why FRIEND?
All that is known is that Pink is heavily implied to represent Hope, and Gold to Dreams. This will likely become more relevant than ever in Chapter 5.
Why does Kris stare super intensely at the bathroom door?
It might look like a just a set-up and punchline, but I believe this references something specific.
Kris likely knows this is the bathroom by heart. They would play the grand piano and visit all the time in their childhood. Of course they know this is the bathroom.
If Kris knows this is the bathroom, I can only imagine Kris wants to use it to escape the control of the soul like they did at the end of Chapter 2.
Based on this line, Kris's "bathroom strategy" seems to pre-date the player's influence. Kris has escaped like this before and Toriel knows and accepts it.
Which is interesting, as it leads to another can of worms. Has Kris been controlled before? Did they simply escape like this all the time - before the player's arrival? If Kris went out to specifically slash the tires, what did they do each other time they escaped?

Each node name is whatever comes after "deltarune.com/"
For example, one node is named "ramb", so to get to that page you first type "deltarune.com/" then add "ramb"
Dashes represent subsequent slashes.
For example, the node named "code - comments" means the link to that page is "deltarune.com/code/comments"
Yellow nodes are Noelle's blog posts.

[ This post assumes the reader knows the events of the Shadow Crystal fights and the Weird Route up to Chapter 4 ]
What is the ANGEL'S HEAVEN?
The ANGEL'S HEAVEN may be the player's connection to Deltarune. If banishing the angel's heaven is one of the most important pieces of the prophecy (enough that Ralsei would include it in his summary), it would be fitting to end Deltarune by disconnecting the player from the world of Deltarune.
EVIDENCE #1: Spamton NEO's obsession with heaven
Spamton NEO makes several references to heaven, including "ARE YOU WATCHING, [Heaven]!? IT'S TIME FOR SPAMPTON'S [Comeback Special]!" and many other statements of similar caliber. This quote suggests that heaven has an ability to watch or see -- I believe he is talking about the player.
After defeating Jevil, Seam the shopkeeper mentions that Jevil had gone mad and "began to see the world as a game, and everyone as its participants." He has a history with Spamton, according to the Spamton Sweepstakes Q&A which may or may not be canon. (q&a archive link)
If Jevil and Spamton changed for the same reason, it's not a large leap in logic to say Spamton has some meta-knowledge as well, which may include the acknowledgement of the player's connection to Deltarune.
EVIDENCE #2: UNDERTALE's prophecy
In UNDERTALE, glyphs in Waterfall state that "The Angel... The One Who Has Seen The Surface... They will return. And the underground will go empty."
It is commonly agreed that the angel in UNDERTALE's prophecy is the player character since both extreme endings to the game feature the Underground going empty (or mostly empty) but it should be noted that this criteria more closely matches Asriel and Chara for True Pacifist and Genocide respectively.
The facts about UNDERTALE's angel should be noted as the following:
They decide the fate of the world
They have seen the surface
"They will return," meaning that they originally were in the Underground.
This prophecy has no concrete connection to Deltarune's prophecy, but analyzing its themes can grant insight on the angel. If Deltarune maintains the order of UNDERTALE, the true nature of the identity of the angel is more likely to be revealed at the end.
EVIDENCE #3: Noelle
References to angels/angel wings are often linked to Noelle. (Spamton calls Noelle an angel, she owns angel wings from acting as an angel in a Christmas pageant, the suselle ferris wheel scene mentions Noelle "grow[ing] big angel wings," etc.)
This presents a large issue with this theory -- if Noelle is the angel, how could the player's connection to Deltarune belong to her? This is where the theory begins to fall apart since there is no solid evidence to explain this and more evidence will come with future chapters. Frankly, it would make more sense if it was called "Heaven's Angel" instead, but that's not the case.
ANALYSIS:
This analysis is more speculation than drawing conclusions. Proceed with a grain of salt.
There are some ways it could theoretically make sense.
If "Heaven" means "a connection to higher power," it's plausible that the phrase "ANGLE'S HEAVEN" translates to "Noelle's connection to higher power," such as what is seen in the Weird Route -- When thinking about Noelle in Chapter 4, Noelle is symbolized by a single pixel of red energy that is implied to be a piece of soul (given its matching hue).
If this 'soul-energy' directly links a person (like Kris or Noelle) to a higher power (like the player), that is the only case in which "ANGEL'S HEAVEN" makes sense with the context that Noelle is the angel.
Ralsei mentions that the prophecy cannot be avoided, or if it can it will be for the worse. With the above theory in mind, I believe connecting Noelle to heaven/the player via the Thorn Ring is likely one of the major ways to avoid the prophecy.
Expanding on that, a secret deltarune.com page
Of course, more evidence comes by per chapter release.
