Mastery Journal: Business Storytelling & Brand Development
Business Storytelling and Brand development was a course that I was impatiently waiting to take. As a DJ, you donât have that help to explain why your brand, value, story, and behavior is so important. This class has giving me a chance to revamp my image and go beyond the brand and really consider the marketability side of my career and company. It left a lot of questions on the table for me to not only consider but understand the importance.
I came into the course excited and open minded. The first important thing I realized was that I needed to not just know my story but know the difference in personal brand and business brand. I then had to also truly understand my business. Being a DJ our job is to go out, make music, entertain, cross into multiple platforms, and stay revenant. This course help me understand that I have a bigger task of creating a distinguishable brand and image and simply being myself. Understanding the how is what the class taught me. Story telling help me understand how to become relatable.
After shows and events I would not only become introverted to people, but sometimes leave immediately. I would not talk to people nor would I engage with fans and followers. I wasnât sure what to really say or do. I also had issues with explaining my value to people. And what talents I brought to the event. The class done more than I expected as I could stop and think about these actions and what brand was I trying to build. I understand my brand and story in a completely different way. I find myself talking to people and gaining more followers. I also have notice a spike and increase in my bookings. Iâm able to present myself and understand itâs okay to say no to an event.
This a course I can say I feel isnât long enough. I feel it has opened the door in many areas that I have ignored. I now understand the company and brand Iâm building is solely based on me and itâs about me. I am looking forward to a future in a field that I love and have a passion to not just be separate but be great in.

I must admit I have grown after taking this course. This Project and Team Management Course help me understand a lot of things about myself and my professional career. This class allowed me to document, develop, and create my dream to reality. Where the city at was a project I couldnât not before this course understand how to put together. I have something that I am working on and pushing forward and have full support of a team that is behind me. I am excited to do test shoots and have meetings with the venues.
I am in complete growth and development as a person on my personality. I must admit wasnât expecting to learn about myself. I can say that week four was the turning point and self-check for me. Being able to see and understand yourself in a different light is always a great thing. It has allowed me to do a lot of self-checking. I am glad that I could locate behavior that I did not want to have on display. I learned with my personality from the information is that shared I need to be aware of additive behavior, especially when sober I am minded. It can also be signs of serious medical conditions. Being able to learn and grown is one of the best feeling in the world. The lessons in the books and literature was nothing more than a bonus to growing and motivation to be better and advance forward.
I was hesitant about the course not knowing what I was in store for. The best thing I read was a statement by Patrick M. Lencioni. He said, "If you could get all the people in an organization rowing in the same direction, you could dominate any industry, in any market, against any competition, at any time." Learn that even with being dominate and control issues I must be careful about using my dominance when it should be influence.

After think thinking of how I operate and my personality. When conducting, and handling the business of my own company my style is more of Robert Greene techniques listed in, â48 Laws of Power.â However, when reading Maxwell, I noticed I have a lot of those traits when I am employed by a company. I noticed that by comparing my issues and opportunities to both owning and being employed. I realize that when working for someone I am different than when I am focused on my business.
After discovering the difference, I also realized that my goal is to continue an independent business owner and entrepreneur. I will discuss my style as an owner and continue to figure out how to improve.
Law 3 Conceal your intentions
As a kid, I was extremely out spoken and would say anything on my mind. My mother always said to me, âYou need to just shut-up sometime!â I didnât understand that statement until I was 16 years old and in trouble. The first statement said by the officer was, âI was told you said âŚ.,â and immediately I leaned the importance of keeping my intentions to myself. I do it in business and in life. I feel if your ideas and thoughts are out before time you are completely ruining your potential chances for success. Ultimately talk too soon and too much can kill your plans.
Law 4 Always say less than necessary
Meek Mill said in dreams and nightmares, âGangstas move in silence and I donât really talk a lot!â Successful people are not talkers of themselves. Not just in business or just life, but in general. While most people love to talk, I have learned that by not saying much your able to learn more. I make sure never to overelaborate and cut my sentences to minimum in my leadership. I always think itâs best to do that as you want to protect your business and assets. Tupac Shakur said, âLoose lips sink ships.â The more you talk and continue to talk. Before you know it, you forget that you are no longer the smartest person in the room. That is typically the point when the business is going to fall apart.
Law 9 Win through your actions, never though argument
You must let your work talk for you at some point. Success is always best kept silent vocally you should allow the work to show for itself. I have always preferred to show my work better than talk. I donât like to argue and tend to be very passive so I do not have to argue. You must show your work and let others decide for themselves. Attempting to prove a point or working to make others happy often leaves you unhappy. The moment you stop aiming to please people is the moment you will find happiness.

If you believe that deceivers are colorful folk who mislead with elaborate lies and tall tales, you are greatly mistaken. The best deceivers utilize a bland and inconspicuous front that calls no attention to themselves.

Power is in many ways a game of appearances, and when you say less than necessary, you inevitably appear greater and more powerful than you are. Your silence will make other people uncomfortable.

In the realm of power, you must learn to judge your moves by their long-term effects on other people. The problem in trying to prove a point or gain a victory through argument is that in the end you can never be certain how it affects the people youâre arguing with

My inspirationÂ
I was in South Beach at a WMC a few years ago. DJ Irie was at his table. As I passed I said Hello and that's was when he asked me about a mix and set I done. Ultimate honor and privilege to have it happen. It is an extremely motivational moment to have have happen.Â

A Journey to find Me
I am J Blair and I go by DJ J FLAIR. I am a DJ / Producer / Host (TV & Radio) / Foodie. When I was a child I once heard my best friend father (Dr. R. L. Washington Sr.) Â preached a sermon that spoke on Moses, King David, and King Solomon. The title of the sermon was, âThe you in you, that nobody knows, not even you!â On this journey, I am looking to find, âThe me in me, that nobody knows, not even me!â I am in search to be a better leader, create a better way, and have a better life. I am looking to build find the tools and break down the walls and restraints that has kept me back for so long in life.
I am a lover of the creative arts and devoted student of greatness on a Mastery Journey of my craft, the world, but importantly my life. Over these 12 months I seek to gain the tools needed to help me live out my dreams of my own global media entertainment. I personally feel like the class has already awakened me. I have a long way to go and try to revamp.
I aim to become the mogul and philanthropist I have always dreamed to be. I know that I donât want to find myself looking over my life unsure of what happen. I have done all the things of an understudy and now I am looking to make an impact of my own in the industry. I have begun to meditate and even put thought into my actions.
When I was younger I always wanted to be like my grandfather who was a police officer. When I went to college he gave me the typical leaving home, âYou have my name attached talk.â He said, âI want you to explore and fall in love with what you love and what you desire. I am I cop I love that stuff. Youâre a musician and DJ let your greatness be that. Donât be me, nor your Dad.â Going into business for myself and starting my brand was the hardest thing ever. My father and grandfather both have let me know it was the greatest moment of their lives.
That is why I am here and thatâs what I am looking for. I am J Blair and I go by DJ J FLAIR. I am a DJ / Producer / Host (TV & Radio) / Foodie. I am a lover of the arts and devoted student of greatness on a Mastery Journey.
