Something was bothering Elle, and she didn't quite know what. It wasn't just the distant honking noise that had pulled her towards the window in the first place, though that certainly was noisy. No, there was something more, something that that noise was bringing back...
In the faint corners of her mind, Elle began to remember what it was like out there, in the hustle and bustle of the city. Those sounds of honking and shouting weren't just the calls of some strange animal. They were the sounds of people, people filled with stress and worry, people letting that stress and worry out on one another, making it a part of their world. Dull as it was now, Elle could still recall the touch of that negative energy, and just how awful it felt.
And then, she remembered that she didn't live in that world anymore. She didn't have that stress. She didn't have those worries. In her world, Daddy took care of everything, and he made sure nothing would ever hurt his princess. In her world, there were stuffies and toys and playtime and storytime, and above all, there was love.
Pulling her arm back, she reached to pinch the bottom of her diaper. Feeling the crinkling plastic in her fingers, she realized that she was wet, but that seemed to be the case more often than not these days. Far more importantly, she knew she wasn't dreaming.
This was her world now. And there was no place she would rather be.
