The yurt compound of William Coperthwaite near Machiasport, Maine.
No one alive has done more to promote yurts than Bill Coperthwaite. Coming across the style in a 1962 National Geographic article, he recognized in the yurt a construction method so simple and durable, that almost anyone, regardless of skill or budget, could build their own home. He’s spent the last 4 decades living off-grid, lecturing, selling plans, and leading hundreds of yurt building workshops around the globe.
Read more on Bill’s life and philosophy in his book: A Handmade Life.

Crystal Peak Lookout in Fernwood, Idaho
Read more about this lookout, including hundreds of cabin photos, featured in our new book. Pre-order available now: cabinporn.com/inside
The tower’s owner, Kristie Mae Wolfe / @kristiemaewolfe, tells us about the history:
This fire lookout originally built atop a 40-ft wood frame tower by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources in 1959. It was sold for $1 in 1983 on the condition it be removed in 30 days because it was blocking the view from the new, identical, tower. It was then transported to a 7-acre parcel on Crystal Ridge, Idaho (that the owner purchased in trade for a load of logs). The metal tower it sits, was bought at a Government auction.
It exchanged hands a couple more times and had been forgotten about for quite some time. I recently bought the now 13-acres with the lookout and rehabbed it. There was an old leaning wood shed that I turned into a wood burning sauna.

The only cars I covet are inevitably one-off concepts.
Bright and airy, this attic bathroom by architect Klaus Brockers rings elegant changes on traditional white tile. The blond wood places the design within a classic Nordic context, with its blue sink and white faucet as accents.
