So my mom just made fun of me for playing star stable at 16 yrs old… (warning: cussing)
And it really pissed me off because as a trans dude who lives in a pretty populated area it’s the only time I feel happy. It’s the only time where I won’t have to worry about being called slurs and can see the night sky. It’s the only time where I feel like I can be out in nature because, as a disabled person, it’s hard for me to go outside and explore. I get to live a life I’ve always wanted in that game and if that makes me happy then fuck you for trying to take that away from me because “I’m too old”
So, I play with my kid (whos older than you even) and got a fair amount of shit for it (along with my other hobby, doll collecting) because I’m “too old”. If you dont just own it, and be like “this is what makes me happy deeeeeeeal wiiiiith eeeeeeet!!!!!!”, its gonna eat at ya. Us tumblerites are prolly all too old for this game. So are the game masters? 🤷♀️
Play. Enjoy. Live that life you always wanted.
SSO is an escape for me most of the time, and I’ll be turning 17 in a few months. I’m a senior. Your age doesn’t matter as long as the game makes you happy.
I was the target age when I started playing (11), and some years have gone by and some of my friends have stopped playing, yeah, but not me. I’ll be 18 in less than two months, but I won’t stop playing then either. When I turned 13 I had my own little drama about leaving “kid stuff” behind, but I realized pretty soon that I didn’t have to. I still watch cartoons, I still draw ponies in class. And yeah, I play starstable. That’s perfectly fine. No one has died because I decided that I didn’t want to abandon my hobbies for something as silly as getting too old. If something makes you happy, do it, because you only live once :)
Hey friend, I’m 18! My boyfriend is 18 as well, we’re both gamers but he’s more into the popular single player games. Dark Souls and Fallout type stuff. You know what he said when I told him I play Star Stable and ESO (looked down on by a lot of elder scrolls fans)? He said it sounded cool!! Shit I’ll put on some My Little Pony too, just because it’s so cute and innocent and makes me forget about the world around me and politics and whatnot. My friend is in college going drinking and partying every night and if I bring up a discussion about it she is down to chat about pony theories LMAO.
Look, what I’m getting at is, not everyone will understand your interests and what makes you happy. It’s a really outdated mindset to think that cute things are only for adolescents. Older generations and such. I don’t know a mellinal that DOESNT still indulge in their favorite childhood things like shows or games or such.
You just gotta find your people! We’re your people :) if you have an interest in horses and want to learn more I’m always here to answer questions. It’s just as magical to ride under the night sky in real life as it is in Star Stable!! I’ll say you’re getting a pretty great experience. You’re valid and beautiful.
(Also I’m pretty sure 16 falls around their target audience too so, you’re not old for the game at all)
heyyy! 18 year old disabled trans guy here. as the others have said, you are absolutely valid to be playing sso-- especially if you find safety in it. while I’m a bit more lucky and can go out without being bothered so much, I do feel the same in that when I am unable to go outside, it’s very nice to simply turn on the game and revel in the amount of nature it has (especially now with the new update).
personally, I’ve had some issues myself before with “getting too old” or sso being a “girl’s game,” but honestly, if it makes you happy? who cares? the people who give you shit for it are probably not people you want to be around anyway, because people who care would accept the things that make you feel happy and safe. you don’t need reasons or excuses to do those things; I think it’s healthy of you to indulge in them.
if you ever need to talk about it, please feel free to message me. you should be allowed to be yourself.
