It’s that thing, where your adopted dad has a mental breakdown and wanders into the forest to slowly starve to death.

She’s tried to kill him in every single movie and people still try to make her out to be the cinnamon roll.

We’ve seen her kill way more people than Kylo ever did. We see her whoop and cheer as she kills storm troopers, victims just like Finn. We see her never think on her actions or hesitate while Kylo constantly thinks about his duels. Rey is impulsive and unpredictable. They tried to trick us into thinking Kylo was because he “unleashes tantrums on consoles and tech” but better that then living people? Lor San tekka, calculated. His father, tons of anguish. Didn’t take the shot on his mother. Had to plan how to kill snoke. Told Rey from the beginning that he wasn’t going to ever bow to Palpatine and actually tried to work together.

She’s. Actually a bad hero. In every instance where she gets a hit on Kylo, it’s not because she has superior technique or power, it’s because she has no restraint and fights dirty. We never see him take advantage on the battle field. Seeing him unleash a can of whoop ass on his own knights makes me feel like we never got to see him really go. He was never fighting Rey. Watching their interactions is like a parent allowing the cub to get bites in to build confidence.

This is so true, but rather than making her “bad hero”, I believe she does it reflexively because such qualities kept her alive and fed on Jakku. Rey grew up without learning how to interact with people in any kind of normal way. She had to fight for everything and protect herself and her meager possessions all her life.

If Ben/Kylo really meant maim or kill her, he could easily have exploited Rey’s tendencies but he never did. He tried to show her how to have control over that part of herself and stop allowing survival instincts to dictate her responses, allowing her to protect herself from manipulations - something Ben had to learn the hard way.
