He got marked down for number 2 as well and it doesn’t even make sense how they marked them down. They just changed the format of how the kid counted the groups, but it still could be read as either six groups of four, or four groups of six. This isn’t even some common core bullshit, this is literally a teacher being shitty to their students.
Is this why so many kids are growing up with even more difficulty solving math problems? Shitty teachers and their shitty grading methods?
Pretty much. With Common Core it’s their way or nothing. But it’s been going that way for a while now. Hell, I failed first year Algebra in high school because the teacher was an ass and only accepted work in long form, even though, thanks to my dad having taken college algebra a few years earlier, I knew shortcuts to get the same answer. But, because it wasn’t what she wanted, I got marked down and eventually just told her to fuck off and gave up.
In the course of my years of being educated, I have failed Algebra 2 three times and only passed after a professor spent every minute of his office hours helping me with my homework so I could understand where I messed up on a problem.
My teachers were the same.
I used to get SO MUCH shit because I didn’t work our problems the way they wanted.
i remember while i was in high school my brother figured out an easier way to solve a math problem than what was taught, and for some reason really steamed the teacher’s broccoli.
