Being a public figure as a woman must just suck massively. People are constantly creating rumours about you, criticising you, sexualising you, and over-analysing you.
I mean I look at it like this. Just about every famous woman has had time of intense hatred against them.
Anne Hathaway has had it.
Kristen Stewart has had it.
Brie Larson has had it.
Millie Bobby Brown has had it.
Megan Fox has had it.
Anna Kendrick has had it.
Candice Patton has had it.
And so many more. It’s exhausting to watch, I can’t imagine what it would be like to experience it.
what I love about room is when they escape, it’s actually quite realistic in its portrayal in that it’s not all suddenly sunshine and rainbows.
joy’s father cannot even bring himself to look at jack which does impact her relationship with her father and even though none of what happened is jack’s fault, I think you are meant to have some level of compassion about what his problem is bc jack IS a reminder of the physical trauma joy went through.
joy also isn’t suddenly healed from her trauma, which does cause her to do stuff such as snap at jack at points and does lead to her attempting suicide due to what she went through and her thinking her son would be better off without her and that she’d failed him.
like it also has a hopeful ending which I am glad of, but it is still pretty realistic in its portrayal of trauma and I do think it’s a trauma that joy, jack and their family will unfortunately have to live with for the rest of their lives. but they love and support each other and I think the story wants you to believe that they can continue to grow through it.
Women are allowed to be annoying, bitchy, mean spirited, unkind, lousy, lazy, finicky, anxious, disinterested, disingenuous, disrespectful, and also be believed when they come forward about sexual harassment or assault. Women are allowed to be unliked and also believed. We cannot keep equating our own inability to like someone to our ability or lack thereof to believe them. I don’t see this inability when it comes to men. In fact, I think so many people love a redeeming arc in a man, but hate it seen in women. Why? Why? Why do men get to have comeback stories from things like addiction, theft, bad workplace behavior, even things as heinous as manslaughter… but a woman can’t come back from a bad interview? A bad press junket? A bad relationship? I can’t think of men so hated the way women like Amber Heard and Blake Lively are hated right now. Even beyond them. It’s so easy to hate women right now. Cynthia Erivo, Lea Michele, Jennifer Lopez, Brie Larson, Rachel Zegler, Chappell Roan, Taylor Swift, and so on. I see unprecedented amounts of hate for these women and more nearly everytime they make a headline, but I don’t see the same energy for men. And if any one of them were to come out about sexual harassment or assault, I guarantee I’d have to see more comments about how it doesn’t matter because they’re famous, or how they brought it on themselves, or how they’re probably lying because they need the engagement or sympathy. It is so much more important to believe women than it is to belittle them, even the ones you dislike or distrust. Even if she did lie, I promise you, the men that they “ruin” the career of can always come back. The internet will open their arms to any man with half a jawline or lukewarm wit.
Pride month without a girlfriend? Very homophobic

This has been said before by people better at articulating their opinions than me, but the bad reception Black Widow got from male MCU fans is about so much more than just the simple concept that it's a superhero movie starring a woman, but the fact that it's so clearly a film by women for women. It's in all the little things, like all the amazing braids sported by the female characters instead of having them constantly fight with their hair down, Yelena and Natasha being excited about the vest and all its pockets, zero sexualisation of any of the Widows, the forced hysterectomy being discussed matter-of-factly, and the women getting to wear minimal to no make-up in settings where that makes sense. But it's also in the big things, like the story centred around the epidemic of girls being subjected to human trafficking with a theme of reclaiming your anatomy and freeing other female victims, both others and your own.
Obviously this doesn't mean that every single woman on earth is automatically gonna identify with and like the movie, that's an impossible achievement. But it is a movie that's so much more than pandering, and these geeks are just completely incapable of inserting themselves into a point of view different from their own.
Yeah, when the menz get all whiny and butthurt that a movie isn’t catering directly to them, I just sit back and drink a nice hot cup of tea brewed with male tears.
the joy Yelena has for her pockets (which is so cute and tragically heartbreaking) alone shows this cos lord knows women's stuff lacks pockets and a brainwashed spy knowing this speaks volumes.
plus the piercings being objectively a hinderence to their fighting but still kept- honestly cherry on the top and not just because it highlights their desire for bodily autonomy; general desire to control their inner and outer perceptions (plus it looks cool).
Save me sapphic couples in media, save me
Happy Pride Month 🏳️🌈 love y’all ❤️.

trinity santos is a study in fandom misogyny because they gave her all the characteristics fandoms usually salivate for in men, being gruff, quippy and misunderstood with a tragic backstory but a heart of gold beneath it all. they put all this into her AND let her be a lesbian. she's everything you could ever want in a character but she's not a man so half the fandom either hates her or constantly mischaracterizes her as petty, callous and aggressive while doing mental gymnastics to baby the male characters around her
Bucky this Bucky that. Uwu sad man with trauma and big feelings yeah no I've already got a traumatized living weapon who's being Queer baited by Marvel studios 24/7 thank you very much and she's for the girls and the gays 🫡🤙✨️🐈

why the fuck is everyone in the ready or not 2 tag thirsting over the abusive white guy like he’s not even hot he just beats up women
Room is like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt if it seriously explored how horrifying it is for a man to kidnap a woman and lock her up for several years
Kimmy uses humour as a coping mechanism wheres Room focus on the negative (and realistic) reality of the situation.
Honestly seems like a pretty realistic reactions for both, just polar opposites.

Room (2015) is a brilliant masterpiece of best acting, particularly Brie Larson.
There is such honesty in every scene she’s in that it looked like she’s sported Joy’s actual being. One could only achieve this by trying to accept the aches of being human and the imperfection that skews our ideals, which is an ongoing process with a vague end.
Eyes tell the most honest of our stories; Larson, courageously parading her vulnerability, conveyed raw honesty using this instrument. Bringing the affective feelings that massaged the audiences’ intrinsic empathies.
Overall, a phenomenal job that pushed Room (2015) into my most-favorites list.
*rests chin on hand* tell me more about how you, as a man, don't like this tv show made by women for women exploring deeply ingrained societal issues and traumas women face because the female lead *checks notes* is annoying sometimes
