Hiii!! Could i get a reading on whatās been holding me back with regards to my career? Thank youu!! -Vāļø
Hi there V, you sure can!
It looks like it's your own sense of security that's holding you back. There may be a change you're resisting, either from fear or just plain contentment with the way things are now. Either way, in order to advance you'll have to step out of your comfort zone and embrace that change
Reading Guidelines
I'll keep this pretty brief since most of it's covered already.
Please don't ask:
For a third party reading (How does X feel about such and such?) I use tarot to interpret messages from your higher self, and can't gauge someone else's feelings from a reading meant for you.
For a reading on legal or medical matters. I'm not a doctor or a lawyer, any questions best suited for them should go to them.
For a reading on past lives or communicating with spirits. These aren't things I'm versed in, but plenty of other readers are!
Yes or no questions, or for future predictions: Will this thing happen? Does she like me? Should I do this? I don't use tarot for these type of questions.
Now I know you're thinking but April, what's even the point of a reading, then?
So, here's some suggestions:
What's the biggest obstacle in this situation? What's keeping me from moving forward in regards to X?
What are my greatest strengths in this situation? What are my best resources in dealing with X?
How can I advance.... (this relationship, my career, etc)
How can I make the most of this situation?
What should I be focusing on right now?
How can I better communicate... (with this person, how I feel, etc)
I know these are really general and broad, but that's kind of the point! Use these as an example, consider the situation you want a reading on and what open-ended question would provide the answers you're seeking. I'm happy to work with you to make sure the reading is what you're looking for, just shoot me a message!
For short, one question readings feel free to send an ask, anon or not, and it will be answered as soon as I'm able. (I do work full time, and sometimes I'm busier than others so while it will often be within 24 hours, it will also sometimes not be). For paid readings, DM me or reach out at [email protected]

Brief update;
I've been remarkably not busy, but it feels like none of my free time was able to be devoted to tarot.
That's not quite accurate. None of it was being devoted to tarot or spirituality or meditation because I'm a lazy asshole I'd been putting those things off. After a few (read: several) readings calling me out about it, I'm finally kicking my butt into gear! I hope to get back in the habit both with my own spiritual practice and updating things here. To start; an official introduction!
I'm April. I'm 24, a married mother of two, and a tarot reader! I created this blog to be sort of like a digital tarot journal, as my understanding of the cards develops. Here, you'll find readings, spreads, interpretations, and other tarot resources - a combination of OC and reblogged content.
I've been reading tarot for one year (well, two weeks shy of a year as of the writing of this post ~maybe I'll do something for my tarotversaryš¤·š½āāļø). My approach and understanding of the tarot has changed drastically since I first picked it up, and continues to evolve. I read both intuitively and by-the-book. Artists depictions, numerology, and traditional meanings all play a part when I'm interpreting cards, but ultimately I go with my gut.
I believe that we are are all divine and so the tarot is a tool we can use to tap into that divinity. The messages come from our Higher Selves and can provide insight or help us to understand a perspective we may have been missing. I do use tarot to see potential outcomes, but we make decisions every moment that shape those outcomes. I use tarot as a tool for personal growth, and so I don't do 3rd party readings, or read on medical/legal matters. Leave the professional issues to the professionals, y'all!
If after taking all that into consideration you still want a reading from me, I do offer free and paid readings! Check here for guidelines.

And that's all for now! Enjoy the blogš

I'm reading Gail Fairfield's Choice-Centered Tarot again. It was one of the first tarot books I read and if I'm being honest I kind of skimmed it, copied card meanings down and put it up. (I know the advice for beginners is to do, well, exactly not that. I was just certain I was different and would be able to learn differently š )
Anyway I came back to it because I'm currently making my way through Choice-Centered Relating and the Tarot (also by Gail Fairfield and seriously you should read it. Even if you aren't into tarot, read it. I'm only halfway through it and the way she talks about relationships has probably saved my marriage š Really though it's full of great relationship advice, romantic or otherwise, and I mean I doubt the second half of the book will be worse than the fantastic first half so, at least for now, I really recommend. Anyway) and the way she talked about the cards (it's gone over briefly in the beginning) made me want to reread her other book and yeah, I couldn't have made a better decision.
The book has made me completely reevaluate the way I think about the cards, and yet I'm so much more comfortable and confident in my understanding of them now. It's become quite literally my understanding. Not this book, this person, this whatever said x, y or z. But an understanding that clicks with me. I mean it still holds to numerology & traditional meanings but in a way where I understand so much better why I think this about this card or this suit or this number. I think thats such an important question to be able to answer, with something aside from "cuz the LWB says so."
Tldr; check out Gail Fairfield, her books have been helpful to me. š

Tarot Tips: The Importance of the Four Elements
When learning tarot, start broad; donāt just try to learn each cardās meaning because there is so much more to that card than the few words your booklet uses to describe it! Keeping other areas of practice in mind can make reading much more intuitive. This is a little crash course on how the minor arcana and court cards are influenced by the four elements!
š²Earthš²
Minor Arcana Suit: PentaclesĀ
Court Cards: Pages
Earth influences the Pentacles cards by gearing their meanings more towards the physical or āearthlyā aspects of life. When learning the meanings of the Pentacles cards, keep in mind that you should apply their meanings to concepts like finances, physical health, and family!
The Pages or Daughters of the deck are often very stubborn and ground; when combined with the element of their suit this approach to life can lead to a variety of outcomes.
āļøAirāļø
Minor Arcana Suit: SwordsĀ
Court Cards: Knights
Air influences the Swords cards by gearing their meanings more towards the intellectual and practical aspects of life. When learning the meanings of the Swords cards, keep in mind that you should apply their meanings to concepts like intellectual pursuits, the logistics of situations, and are often beacons of change!
The Knights or Sons are winds of change; their constant movement combined with the element of their suit leads them to be dynamic characters.
š§Waterš§
Minor Arcana Suit: Cups
Court Cards: Queens
Water influences the Cups cards by gearing their meanings more towards the emotional and spiritual aspects of life. When learning the meanings of the Cups cards, keep in mind that you should apply their meanings to concepts like emotions, relationship dynamics, and self reflection!
The Queens or Mothers are in touch with themselves; when combined with their suit it is easy to see how they interact with themselves and others, especially on an emotional level.
š„Fireš„
Minor Arcana Suit: WandsĀ
Court Cards: Kings
Fire influences the Wands cards by gearing their meanings more towards the active and passion based aspects of life. When learning the meanings of the Wands cards, keep in mind that you should apply their meanings to concepts like actions, impulses, and passion driven pursuits!
The Kings or Fathers are forces of nature; when combined with the element of their suit it is capable to see how these characters act and the motives behind their, sometimes hasty, decisions.
Starting Tarot Part I - What is Tarot?
As the second decade of the 21st century draws to a close, interest in mysticism and the occult seems to grow exponentially.Ā
Iāve an article devoted to beginner resources for those wishing to begin a journey into witchcraft. With this surge of interest in the magic comes an equally-strong wave of new diviners. As always, Tarot is a perennially-popular method of divination.Ā
This article inaugurates a short series Iāll be posting, all about taking the first steps into Tarot!Ā
So, lets begin with a simple questionā¦
What is Tarot? What makes a Tarot deck what it is?
All Tarot decks have a certain basic structure. In the distant past, when the Tarot developed, decks often had a more fluid structure. Nowadays, though, the Tarot tends to almost always follow this structure. You can divide the deck into five basic sections or āsuits.āĀ
First, we have the Major Arcana. These consist of twenty-two evocatively-named cards. They include such famous ones as The Tower, The Lovers, and The Fool. These are the most well-known and recognizable Tarot cards in the popular mind.Ā
Some readers tend to give more āweightā to the Major Arcana in a reading. I generally agree with this perspective. After all, the Major Arcana cards all represent momentous ideas, events, and people.
Each Major Arcana card corresponds to many different occult concepts. For example, card I - The Magician, corresponds to the element of Air as well as the planet Mercury. It also has myriad other associations that you can read about in various books.Ā
These correspondences create a link between Tarot and other occult systems. These include astrology, Hermeticism, and other systems. Iāll discuss this in more depth later on, in another article.Ā
Trust me, though - it is perfectly possible to read Tarot without that sort of knowledge. If it interests you, though, it is worth a look and may well make things easier!
After the Major Arcana, thereās the Minor Arcana. These are a set of four suits, each featuring ten numbered cards and four ācourtā or face cards (such as King of Wands).Ā
These suits correspond to the four classical elements. They embody the gamut of the elementsā expression in the universe. If youāre not familiar with the four elements, Iāve got some articles on that here.Ā In short, though, the suits of the Minor Arcana are:
The Suit of Wands, usually associated with the element of Fire, the human Will and creative spark.
The Suit of Swords, corresponding to the element of Air, the intellect, and communication.
The Suit of Cups, associated with the element of Water, emotions, the heart, and romance.
The Suit of Pentacles, corresponding to the element of Earth, physicality, embodiment, health, and prosperity.
Some decks swap the elemental correspondences for Wands and Swords. The ubiquitous Waite-Smith deck uses the above associations, though. Some diviners have strong personal preference for one or the other. If that is the case, choose a deck that reflects that, even if not traditional!
Beyond these elemental associations, each Minor Arcana card has an astrological association, too! For example, the Six of Swords corresponds to the planet Mercury in the constellation of Aquarius.
As I noted above, you donāt have to know astrology or any similar system like that to read the cards. It can be helpful for some readers, but not all! I do recommend all Tarot newbies learn the basics of the four elements, though. Understanding them does make reading the cards much easier in the long run!
Some folks refer to the Minor Arcana as āpipā cards, but that doesnāt make them unimportant! While they tend to represent more transient matters than the Major Arcana, they still have a lot to tell us!Ā
Some decks (particularly pre-Waite-Smith decks) feature āunillustratedā pips. These cards only feature images of the suit symbols (ie, ten swords on the Ten of Swords).Ā
Some readers find such decks less evocative and difficult to read. Others feel that unillustrated pip cards allow deeper engagement with the cardsā numerology. If you think youāve a preference for one or the other, be sure to look for a deck with that feature.
Many decks used for divination do not have this structure, and thus are not Tarot decks. Some good examples of non-Tarot decks include the Lenormand deck, the Minchiate, and various modern oracle decks.
This doesnāt make them less meaningful or somehow invalid. It simply means that they operate outside of the Tarot paradigm. A lot of those decks are great in their own way, but distinct from Tarot.
But, anywaysā¦
You can find this and all other articles in this series ghost-tagged as #startingtarot on my blog - click here for that!
Expect several more installments in this series (I think five?), each building on the previous, to give you a general introduction to Tarot and becoming a diviner!
I sat down to think about what it is that I want to get out of a spiritual practice, and what I came up with are connection, growth, & peace. I expand on those ideas a little bit below, but this spread can be adjusted for whatever values it is that youāre trying to see more of in your life or in your practice.
Connection: the reverence side of my spirituality. This could be devotionals, prayers, however you connect with your deity/ies or the Divine. For me, it looks like going for a walk, taking time out for acknowledgment and gratitude, and meditating.Ā
Growth: personal growth. This can be in knowledge and education, learning and honing a skill, or just focusing on growing as a person. Bettering yourself.
Peace: peace of mind. Harmony and contentment. This is the self-care area of my spirituality. Are you happy? Donāt neglect your own well-being.
This spread takes a look at how youāve been achieving these goals, where you could be doing better, and how you can improve. Because all of these areas are covered, itās one I like to use with the full moon when Iām reviewing the intentions I set with the new moon and what has come to fruition (but it can be used any time!). Itās a great way to check-in and see whatās good and what can be better.

Breaking Down the Celtic Cross Spread
The Celtic Cross spread is one it seems readers either love or hate. That, or they havenāt tried it because it looks too complicated. I can certainly see that it can appear intimidating, especially when compared to your average 3-5 card spread (itās double the size!). However, once you get to know the positions and get some practice, itās really quite simple.
That being said, no matter how long you spend mastering the Celtic Cross, if youāre looking for a quick reading you wonāt find it here. Thatās not because the spread is difficult, truly it isnāt. But it is meant to be one you spend some time with. I recommend at least 45 minutes, but ideally even longer. Take your time. The cards want to talk to you. Listen to what they have to say.
The Celtic Cross is simple once you get the hang of it. Iāve broken it down into 5 easy steps, to help those of you who may have been struggling with it. Iāll also be sharing two example readings, one that I did for myself and one that I did for a friend of mine [shared with his permission, of course].
Note: a lot of people say beginners should stay away from the Celtic Cross until theyāre more experienced. For some, Iām sure this is the way to go. For othersā well, my very first reading with my very first deck was using this spread, and itās what made me fall in love with tarot. Donāt let inexperience scare you away from trying.
So shuffle your cards, lay down your significator if you use one, and follow along for a step-by-step look at the Celtic Cross.
Step 1 - The Center Cross
Step 2 - Levels of Consciousness
Step 3 - Timeline
Step 4 - Internal and External Influences
Step 5 - Hopes, Fears, and Outcome

Celtic Cross - Step Five: Hopes, Fears, & Outcome
Position Nine - Hopes and Fears: Placed above card eight. This is your greatest hope and/or deepest fear about the situation.
Position Ten - Outcome: Placed at the top of the staff. This is where things are headed; the outcome as things currently stand.
The final two cards donāt pair up in the sense that the other pairs have, but they do for the sake of 2 cards a postš
So card 9 deals with Hopes and Fears. This is your greatest hope and/or deepest fear about the situation. The and/or is an important distinction because sometimes they are one and the same.
Ā For example, my friend's Hopes/Fears card was The Tower. Scary card, right? This obviously speaks to his fears about the coming change and potential upheaval of the way heād gotten so used to things being. But, is change not ultimately the goal? Thereās obviously fear about the changes not working in your favor, but at the other end of that is the hopes that they do. Ideally, you go through this massive change and end up all the better for it.
An important note, I donāt alwaysĀ read this as hopes AND fears. This example is one where the card speaks to both sides, but sometimes itās one or the other. Take some time to consider both the positives and the negatives of the card. Is it exclusively what youāre hoping for? Is it entirely what you fear? Are the two intertwined in ways you hadnāt realized? The reading will reveal what is the most pertinent information to you at this time, so donāt be discouraged if you can only read it as one or the other. It is and/or for this reason.Ā
And finally, the outcome. Arguably one of the more straightforward positions to interpret. Iāll note again that I donāt believe in āpredicting the future.ā I read this card as where things are headed. This is the direction youāre going in with all factors as they are.
So for example, my friends reading showed the outcome as the 2 of Swords. It suggests an upcoming decision that he may be making blindly. So simply by giving him the reading, weāre potentially changing the outcome. By bringing this card to his attention, it becomes less likely that heāll be thoughtless and rash in upcoming decisions (assuming he keeps the reading in mind haha).
So donāt pull this card and end your reading with āthis is whatās going to happen.ā Look instead at what it suggests may be coming up, and whether or not you need to be mindful or make changes to achieve or avoid that outcome.
And thatās all Iāve got for you! I hope that this series has been helpful to new readers and seasoned diviners alike. The Celtic Cross is a complex spread, but it doesnāt have to be a difficult one. Happy readingĀ š
Spread |Ā Step 1 | Step 2 | Step 3 | Step 4Ā
šBlossomsš±
Celtic Cross - Step Four: Internal & External Influences
Position Seven - Yourself: Placed at the base of the staff, to the right of the cross. This is you as you see yourself, and the internal influence that has on the situation. Position Eight - Your Environment: Placed above card seven. This is how others see you; their attitudes and expectations, and the external influence that has on the situation.
The next two cards weāre going to look at are the internal and external influences. So what exactly does that mean? Well, card 7 is yourself. This is you as you see yourself, and the internal influence that has on the situation. So itās all about what YOU think and your present.
For example, in my friends reading he had the King of Swords as Card 7. If youāve been following along youāll know that his center cross āchallengeā was the reversed King of Cups, which suggested an inability to connect. So his view of himself being the King of Swords tells me heās fully aware of that inability. He is the King of Swords. He is emotionally distant by nature, preferring to focus on the practical. This isnāt news to him, this is how he views himself.
For my reading, card 7 was also the King of Swords but in the reversed position, and I donāt want to talk about it.Ā š š (Actually, the rest of this reading for me is a bit on the personal side so weāre going to drop down to just the one example for the rest of it. š)
Now, card 8 is a similar format. Card 7 looks at your perceptions, now weāre looking at everyone elseās. Those close to you and to the situation, this is what theyāre seeing and how that affects you.
For the example reading, his card 8 was the 8 of Pentacles, which confirmed for him that others see how hard heās working for this. They see the effort heās putting in and how important this goal is to him.
In Summary:
When interpreting card 7, think about the querents views on the situation and how theyāre seeing things.
When interpreting card 8, think about what the situation looks like to others; what theyāre seeing, their expectations, and how that plays into the situation.

Been inactive the last week or so. Got a brief vacation coming up so naturally I'm incredibly busy before then lol. I have the rest of the Celtic cross series done I promiseš . Just haven't gotten around to sharing it. That should be up by tomorrow night at the latest And then I'll work on touching up the rest of it. It really isn't the prettiest presentation lol š¤·š½āāļø
Hope everyone is wellš
šBlossomsš±
*squeels* thank you very much, Blossoms. I really appreciate the reading and sorry for asking during the temporary close
You're very welcome!
& it's no problem at all, they're only closed because I haven't gotten around to making a "guidelines/readings I can do" post yet lol. Will be opening them back up soon!
šBlossomsš±
Hi Blossoms! I really hope this isn't a dumb question and if it is, please let me know and I'll never ask it again. If you're able, could I please ask what Hogwarts House I'm meant to be in via your cards? AK
Hi AK, thanks so much for the ask! Free readings are actually closed right now, but I loved this question so much I had to give it a try š
So I drew three cards for you which were the 4 & 5 of Wands, followed by the King of Pentacles. So hereās what I got from this reading:
The 4 of Wands, at least in this deck, suggest insecurity and discomfort at home-- or, in this case, in your Hogwarts House. The 5 of Wands tells me there are some interpersonal issues, disputes and arguing with those around you (perhaps re what house youāre supposed to be in?)
So the final card, the King of Pentacles, was a firmĀ āRavenclaw.ā Heās a thinker, but in more a grounded way than the cunning King of Swords (Slytherin). Down to earth, logical, practical. The cards say Ravenclaw, all the way. š
Hope this helps!

Celtic Cross - Step Three: Timeline
Position Five - What Lies Behind You: Placed to the left of the center cross. This is your recent past, and the influences that are receding. Position Six - What Lies Before You: Placed to the right of the center cross. This is the near future, whatās coming up, or the influences that will be entering the situation.
The cards here show a sequence, the energies and influences surrounding the situation. Card 5 is what lies behind you, your recent past. So this is whatās on its way out or what has recently left your situation and is no longer influencing you. Card 6 is what lies ahead of you. This isnāt āwhatās going to happen in a weekā but rather the energies that have already made their way into your situation. The influences that have already begun to affect you.
For my friends reading, the 9 of Pentacles was on its way out, with the 6 of Cups on its way in; easy enough to interpret. Heād lost a job recently so things were no longer going to be as financially sound. Coming up was a trip down memory lane in the form of visiting his mom in a couple weeks.
For my reading, in the Past position was the Queen of Swords. The Queen of Swords is who Iāve been recently, but not so much anymore. Over-thinker, practical, but maybe emotionally distant. Upcoming is The Lovers, which Iām reading as harmony and connection, which gives me some much-needed hope because man has there been a disconnect recently.
I see cards 5 and 6 as a more straightforward and easy to read part of the Celtic Cross. They give background to the reading. You can look at this part of the spread as a simple Past/Present/Future reading if it helps.
What Lies Before (Card 5) = Past Center Cross (Cards 1 + 2) = Present What Lies Ahead (Card 6) = Future
Spread | Step 1 | Step 2Ā | Step 4 | Step 5
šBlossomsš±
Celtic Cross - Step Two: Levels of Consciousness
Position Three - What Grounds You: Placed beneath the center cross. This is the foundation or root cause of the situation. Position Four - What Crowns You: Placed above the center cross. Your ideal outcome, what youāre working towards, your best-case scenario.
All right, on to step two! Now weāre looking at the different levels of consciousness around this situation.
Starting with card 3*, What Grounds You. This card is placed beneath the center cross and is, fittingly, the ārootsā or āfoundationā of the situation (cards 1 + 2). Followed by card 4, What Crowns You, which is above the center cross. This card represents your ideal outcome or best-case scenario. Another way to look at this is as the levels of consciousness around the situation. What grounds you are the unconscious factors. What lies (sometimes hidden) underneath it all. What crowns you is your goals, what youāre consciously working towards.
*Note that in Arthur Waite's Pictorial Key to the Tarot, positions 3+4 are reversed to what I have here. So Position 3 is What Lies Above, and 4 is What Lies Below. I donāt think it particularly matters which you read first as long as you read it all together. Iāve adapted this spread in the way that works best for me, and I recommend you all do the same as well.
So onto our examples: In my personal reading, cards 3+4 were the 8 of Swords and the Queen of Pentacles, respectively. So the unconscious factors, or basis of the situation is a feeling of being trapped. Holding myself back. Consciously, what crowns me is the Queen of Pentacles. My desire to be her. Grounded, nurturing, down to earth, providing safety and security to her family. Sidenote: the QP has never been the card I resonate with the most, but has always been who I most aspire to be.
So now weāre going to look back at the spread as a whole. What weāre looking at is how these two cards relate to the center cross. For my reading, my over-thinking and grasping on the worst-case scenarios has got me feeling paranoid and unable to move, causing me to be more like the Page of Cups and cling on to nostalgia and how things used to be, instead of facing my responsibilities. Despite these problems, I do long to embody the Queen of Pentacles and ultimately my goal is to provide that sort of comfort, familiarity, and security to my family.
In the other example, my friends reading, the 9 of Swords was at the base of his reading, suggesting that maybe anxiety and negativity were causing him to hold back in his creative endeavors. What crowns him, or what he was working towards was the 4 of Pentacles, suggesting financial stability and certainty - something he can hold on to.
So again, the next thing weāre looking at in the Celtic Cross are the Foundation of the matter in What Grounds You, and the ideal outcome in What Crowns You.
What factors are at play at the different levels of consciousness for your reading?
