Taehyunâs life was progressing exactly as he had predicted. A neat line. Until he was bestowed with the duty of being your personal guard. You. The Princess, second in line to the Throne. In other words, the bane of his existence.
pairings: kang taehyun x reader
genre: royal au!, guard!taehyun x princess!oc, slight angst, eventual smut
warnings: slightly mature themes, light angst, taehyun is a little mean, soogyu and seungcheol mentioned
w/c: 2.5k
a/n: i couldnât stop thinking about guard!taehyun. the time period is not very accurate kinda like bridgerton but not really :) the second part is in the works and should be released soon enough. hope you enjoy reading <3
Kang Taehyun was a calm man. Known to be level headed and cool in any situation. Sworn into the Kings Guard at the age of 18. Sworn to protect his country, a dream he has carried since he was five years old. Nothing much could shake him.
People around him respected him but kept their distance. Something in his eyes. Also being a member of one of the closest families to the Throne made them wary.
He and the Crown Prince had grown up together. Taehyun couldâve been a Viscount, a Baron or even a Lord. Yet, he wanted to be a part of the Kings Guard. There were rumours that he would be Hand of the King once Choi Soobin ascended to the Throne.
Taehyunâs life was progressing exactly as he had predicted. A neat line. Until he was bestowed with the duty of being your personal guard. You. The Princess, second in line to the Throne. In other words, the bane of his existence.
Taehyun wondered whether those words ever meant anything to you. Second in line to the throne. That due to some unforeseen horrifying circumstance you might someday be the ruler of the Kingdom.
From the moment you were able to think, you had made it your personal agenda to undermine him. Your sharp intellect paired with your constant brattiness made every conversation he had with you a miserable affair. You questioned everything. Everything that he believed in.
Taehyun had known peace only after your father, the King, had decided to send you away to your Aunt so that you could learn to be a Lady. Someone who would finally act like someone fit for her position. You were gone from his life for three years. Life almost seemed normal to him albeit a slight ache in his heart. An ache that some might call missing.
Except now you were back. Gone was the scrawny little girl with cracked lips and nervous hands. What now stood before him was more dangerous. A woman.
Taehyun, promoted to a Chief now, hoped your brain had grown as much as your body. That you would now begin behaving properly. In a way fit for a Princess to act.
Wrong.
He should have sensed something was wrong the moment the General approached him with the proposition of being your personal guard. Initially he had refused. And yet the General persisted. Implied only he would be able to do the job perfectly. And that had worked as an ego boost. Wrong move.
From day one and a very eventful day indeed it was you had shown nothing but complete disregard to his acts of protection he was almost convinced that you were trying to either get him fired or get yourself killed. He didnât know which one was worse.
You snuck past his guards after midnight, showing up the day after with muddied gowns and hair that distinctly smelled like hay and sometimes adorned with wild flowers. The Queen Mother would come down to visit and Taehyun would have to build up the most inane excuse as to why you were currently not attending your piano lessons. On more than one occasion he had caught you climbing up through the window to your bedroom.
And yet he never cracked. Never once complained. He would just add in another layer of security. This would lead to a few days of you giving him the cold shoulder until you figured out a way through his iron fist of security.
He wondered how you would react to his latest move, smiling to himself at the thought of your face.
-.-
Your perfume greets Taehyun before he even gets sight of you. That fresh/ floral smell you carry with you no matter where you went.
Taehyun rounds the corner to your bedchamber. You stand with your back to him. Without even realising it, Taehyun admires your posture for a second. You stand tall with your hands clasped behind your back. Your long hair undone.
You seem to be arguing with the guard beside your door. The one he had kept to ensure you wouldnât wander around at night.
âHand me the key now!â
âIâm sorry Madam- but- I donât - â Jungwon stutters, obviously intimidated by you.
âI-I-â you mock âStop mumbling and hand me the key or risk being firedâ you tell Jungwon.
Jungwon glances around nervously before noticing Taehyun and his entire posture changes. He stands up straight, hands in salute. âSir!â
âRelaxâ Taehyun tells him. He liked Jungwon. He was hardworking and seemed to be doing a much better job than your previous guards.
You turn around at the sound of Taehyuns voice. He is wearing that annoying smirk on. The one that suggests he is better than you and that you are being unreasonable.
âWould you mind explaining to me what the newest installation in my room means?â You ask Taehyun, crossing your arms and trying to look as tall as him.
Taehyun smiles to himself. It had taken a little bit of shrewd thinking to actually make it work.
âPrincess, you had called for me?â he responds dropping his head in a bow. You roll your eyes at him. This was his slight reminder on how you should be acting with him.
âIâm not sure what youâre referring to-â he starts before you drag him into your chambers.
âThat one! What do you mean by it?â You tell him pointing at the bars he had installed on your windows while you were away at your piano lessons.
âAh!â Taehyun replies in mock realisation. âYes, I had them installed just today morningâ
You round up around him. âGive me the keyâ
âNoâ
âGive them!â You tell him holding out your hand in protestation.
âSo that you can go out again? And risk your life doing God knows what?â He laughs out.
You assess him for a moment. Taehyun was a smart man. The bars to your window were padlocked and you knew for a fact that Taehyun had the key. It was no use complaining about him to your parents. Whatever the man did, they believed he had your best interests at heart. And maybe he did. But that didnât mean he could get to control where and when you go out.
Taehyun looks back at you with equal defiance. Fighting him was not going to work.
âTyun⊠pleaseâ you beg him. âI promise I wonât sneak out at nightâ you tell him stepping closer to him as he takes a step back.
âAs ifâ he mutters underneath his breath. âPrincess, you are not fooling me this timeâ he tells you without even looking at you.
You take another step towards him catching hold of his arm. âPlease⊠I wonât be able to see the stars through these bars.â
Taehyun looks down at you. Itâs a mistake. You were doing that thing. Pouting. With your chest angled towards him in a way that showed him a brief of your delicious cleavage. Many a guard had fallen for this. Taehyun scoffs. Weak men, he tells himself, wiping the sweat on his brow.
âA no means no, Princessâ he tells you moving away. âGood dayâ he tells you hurrying out your room.
âI will find someone who will pick them for me!â You shout after him.
âGood luck, my Princessâ he shouts back.
You grind your teeth and fall back onto your bed. You were getting that key. No matter what.
-.-
âCan you atleast pretend like youâre listening to what im saying here?â Beomgyu huffs out.
You were lain back on the sofa, feet spread and head resting on the cushion. Piano lessons were your favourite for the fact that Beomgyu let you do whatever as long as you nodded away to his gossip.
You sigh again and Beomgyu roll his eyes.
âAnd what might be bothering the Princess right now?â Beomgyu drawls out and you look at him with narrowed eyes.
âI already told you to not call me that and you know very well whatâs bothering me!â
Beomgyu hides his smile. He was used to your tantrums. He was fond of you if not for your sharp mouth then for the skilled pianist you were. You didnât need him. As you had proved in your first lesson. This was just a way for you to escape your duties and the kitty parties your mother forced you to attend.
âI might know a wayâŠâ Beomgyu tells you after a beat of silence.
You quirk you brow at him.
âI already tried lock picking, it doesnât workâ
âNo. Get me a copy of that lock. We could build a key based on itâ Beomgyu tells you, knocking your feet of the sofa and dropping down beside you.
That has your attention. You sit up beside him with hopeful eyes.
âNo promises thoughâ he tells you quickly and you nod your head at him vigorously just as the doors burst open.
Taehyun takes note of whatâs before him, you and Beomgyu sitting closer than whatâs deemed proper. His eyes focus on the way yours clutch Beomgyuâs arm. Just as it had clutched his own today morning.
Beomgyu jumps up immediately âChief! Whatâs wrong? What brings you here?â
âDonât you know to knock?â You ask him not even bothering to get up or sit properly. Taehyun narrows his eyes at you.
âThe Crown Prince has requested an audience with youâŠâ
âWhy would he want to meet me for?â You ask him haughtily.
âHe does not, Princess. He has requested an audience with Mr. Choiâ Taehyun replies with a small smile.
You feel yourself getting a little red.
âBut we are having piano lessons right now! Canât it wait?â You ask. Taehyun raises his eyebrows at you. âSir..?â You add in
âAs much as I hate to disrupt this intense sessionâ Beomgyu snorts and tries to pass it off as a cough âthe Crown Prince has informed me itâs urgentâ Taehyun finishes off.
âFineâ you grumble getting up.
âPrincess, donât forget what we talked aboutâ Beomgyu tells you as you start towards the door.
You look back to see Taehyun watching you suspiciously and you try to hide your smile as you nod at Beomgyu.
âThank you Sirâ you curtsy and step out, almost sensing Taehyuns brain trying to work out what exactly you have afoot.
-.-
Things have been calm with you for over a week now and that shouldâve been Taehyuns first warning bell. He was surprised at how docile you were being. You were not giving the guards any trouble. You were at your lessons on time. He didnât know what to make of this subdued energy.
You were scheming. Trying to find a way to get a copy of the lock. You had an inkling of an idea but you were stuck on how to execute it. You hadnât been out for your nightly excursions for over a week now.
âThe Princess has put in a request for what?â Taehyun asked roughly. The servant boy stood before him nervously.
âWax⊠for her sealâŠSirâ he repeated nervously. Taehyun considered this. It was not unusual for you to make weird requests but he couldnât understand the point of getting wax. Was it a new beauty trend of some sort?
âI will consider itâ Taehyun tells the boy dismissively.
-.-
âWhat is the delay in getting me some wax?â
Taehyun assessed you for a moment. Hands on your hips, face twisted into exasperation. This doesnât seem to be one of your tricks.
âI couldnât figure out what you would possibly want it forâ Taehyun blurts out.
âWhat?â
âWhat I meant was- why would you need wax?â Taehyun strays off. Your eyebrows have nearly touched your hairline and he feels foolish. A beat of silence passes between you two.
âDo I have to indulge you with every single little detail of my life? Whatâs next - a peek into my underwear drawer?â Taehyun reddens immediately and you have to suppress your smile âIâll have you be reminded what exactly your position here is Kang Taehyunâ
âNo. I do not care for your explanations. Bring me a pot of wax or have me buy it myself!â you slam the door shut on his face.
-.-
The key sits before you.
You take in a deep breath to ground yourself. Finally. After all those painstaking hours you got your freedom.
Beomgyu couldnât help but grin at your exhilaration. You look at him with sparkling eyes. You wait a moment before throwing both your arms around him.
âThank you, thank you, thank you. I canât thank you enough!â You tell him.
Beomgyu stands there taken aback before slowly wrapping his arms around you. âItâs no problem Princessâ he mumbles. This was definitely a violation of a million etiquetteâs but you didnât seem to care.
You pull apart, eyes back on the key. You drop it into your bag and not a moment sooner Jungwon enters to take you back to your chambers.
-.-
The meeting room is tense. Every guard on alert. Taehyun feels the adrenaline coursing through him. He knows this to be a serious affair yet he cannot help but feel exhilarated. This was his element.
âAs summarised, we have received reports of a possible invasion that could happen any time in this weekâ the General looks up from the maps. âWe are alert and ready to face anything. Nothing has occurred so far but I implore you to not ease up. Ensure that the assets stay protected and within vicinity. We require an all time view on the familyâ he concludes.
Each Chief relays the position of his asset. Every single member of the Royal Family is accounted for. Taehyun reports that you are safely in your bed chamber and Jungwon backs him up. Guards are stationed in and around the palace. The meeting stands dismissed.
Taehyun and the General walk back together to his Office. The tension in the air is almost palpable.
âI know itâs not exactly easy to manage the Princess. But you have been coping very well with the responsibility. Iâm proudâ the General tells him with a pat to his shoulder.
Taehyun stands up straighter. Seungcheol was not simply the General he was also Taehyunâs mentor. Someone he looks upto. Someone known to never give out a compliment just for the sake of it.
âThank you Sir, I-I will continue to do my bestâ he stutters out. Taehyun sympathises with Jungwon in his mind, briefly.
The General has a hint of a smile before he heads of to his office. Taehyun is also planning on going back to his but he has to first check in on Jungwon and ofcourse his asset.
Taehyun feels his stomach dropping the moment he rounds the corner. Jungwon is in quick conversation with another guard and the room to your bed chamber is thrown open.
âWhatâs wrong?â He asks running upto them.
âSir- I- â Jungwon stammers, âthe Princess, she was here. I promise- but I canât - She is missingâ
Taehyun can already feel the headache building up in the back of his brain. He steps into your empty room and sure enough the bars to the window are unlocked!
thatâs the end of pt.1 :) pls pls pls lmk your thoughts on this any comment/reblog/like is much appreciated. xoxo

warning(s): established relationship, heartbreak, hurt
a/n: this is a small fic i worked on while finishing up my taehyun fic. itâs inspired by my personal experiences, hope you guys enjoy :)
âWhat.â
You try to process what your boyfriend just told you.
Soobin looks up at you. His eyes are still etched in that smile. Mind not yet caught up with the fact that he said something wrong.
ââŠlying on my bedâ he trails off unsure of himself now.
There is a distinct ringing in your ears.
âYou mean to tell me you and this Jisoo slept on the same bed.â Your voice rises just a little pitch higher.
Soobin looks at you again. His face morphs into disappointment. You knew that look well. The one that precedented the lecture on how you are being toxic to him.
Choi Jisoo. Soobinâs latest friend. Youâve heard stories about her. Stories he himself had told you. Before she had become his friend. You have seen pictures of her. Cozying upto a new guy every month. She was prettier, cooler and well way better than you.
âItâs not like we slept togetherâ he tells you patiently âWe just slept in the same bed⊠thatâs allâ
âAnd Iâm supposed to believe that nothing more happenedâ you almost laugh. âThatâs what you said about the picture tooâ
âYouâre still stuck on that?â He asks you now no longer feigning to be cool about this.
The picture. The one that that had led to a big fight between the two of you. The one she put as her story and the one that Soobin reposted. Also the one where she was basically hugging him, her head on his shoulder and him leaning down towards the top of her head with a drunken smile. Stupid.
He had argued that it was just a drunk picture, one that friends usually take. Soobin had that quality to him. To make any situation rational. To make himself sound rational and you to be the crazy one.
âListen. She was over at our house. It was a party and she was drunk out of her mind. What was I supposed to do, kick her out in that state?â
âNo. Make her sleep on the couchâ you mutter
âTheo and James were already on the couchâ
âWere no other rooms available?â
âYeonjun had a girl with him and you know Taehyun! He locks his door before he goes homeâ Soobin tells you exasperatedly.
You donât know what to say anymore. Somewhere in your brain you knew this was wrong. You just didnât know how to articulate it. Surely this scenario couldâve played out any other way than the one where she ended up on his bed.
Soobin takes your silence for acceptance. As an invitation. âYou donât trust me do you?â
âItâs not a question of trust. You know thatâ
âOfcourse it is! You have issues of your own and youâre projecting them onto me. Iâm sick of itâ
You glance up at him. Hurt.
Soobin goes on, âYou didnât even show up to the party-â
âBecause I had to prepare for my exams Soob!â
âYou always have exams. Always preparing for it and where exactly do you end up?â Soobin no longer knows how to stop. He knows he has said too much. You look at him disbelievingly. âMaybe you should be doing something elseâ
You feel sick. He was the last person you wouldâve expected to hear that from. Sure, this was your third attempt but also this was one of the toughest exams in the country. He knew how much you had struggled with facing them again. Despite the pressure from your family you had stuck on to your dream but now it almost feels hopeless. Nobody believed in you.
You swallow thickly. Not knowing how to reply.
âMaybe we should take a breakâ Soobin tells you quietly. There it was again. Break. You hated that word. It was his solution for everything. As if you could just bear to part with him as simple as that.
It is also a word that is enough to bring you to your senses.
âNo.â You reply âNo Soob, Iâm sorry. I- I overreactedâ you try your hardest to keep your voice steady. He hated it when you cried. âI was just stressed out from everything and I took it out on you - Iâm sorryâ please donât leave me. You add in your mind.
Soobin just shakes his head. Irritated. You both sit there in awkward silence. You can feel Soobin slipping away from you. Like he has been in the last three months. Ever since he has shifted to the city. You had known long distance would be difficult. But it was only temporary. You would clear your exams and move in with him. That was the plan. Except you didnât. A day didnât go by without you feeling guilty about it. Which is why you visited him whenever you could. Even if it meant losing a few precious hours of study.
Soobin was your world. The one you had been building for the last five years. He was yours and you were his. There was not a question about it for you. He was your best friend. He was the one who taught you how to drive. He was the one to take your virginity. He was your home. You were endgame. Now, you begin to wonder if itâs the same for him.
There was a time where he couldnât bear to spend more than an hour without talking to you. He could talk for hours around you. You were his sounding board. The one whose opinion mattered the most. His best friend. He knew you inside out.
You canât remember the last time he had simply just smiled at you. How did things get so bad between the two of you? Even asking for fifteen minutes on the phone felt like you were taking him away from his friends. From his fun. You donât know how much more of yourself to fold up to fit around him.
Exhaustion creeps up on you. You knew you would cry yourself to sleep tonight. You wonder how long it would take him to forgive you for this.
You look over at Soobin and he too seems lost in thought. Steeling yourself you reach over to take his hand in yours. Soobin looks at you, lips set to a thin line.
âPlease. Iâm sorry. I donât want a break. Letâs just forget about this Soobâ you tell him squeezing his hand.
Soobin regards you for a moment. He too seems tired.
âOkayâ he tells you letting go of your hand.

a/n : this is just a short and sweet fic for beomgyu because i miss talk x today :)
-ËËâââââ
âAnd you thought this would be a good idea ?!â you huff out pulling on one end of the tent.
âShut upâ Beomgyu mutters from somewhere on the other side. âTiktok made me believe it was a good idea to go camping with your friendsâ
The sun sat on top of your heads and the heat was unbearable. Beomgyu had picked you up today morning for a surprise hangout. Little did you know, he was trying to grill you alive.
âGyu are you really pitching it back there ?â You shout at him.
âYes you- ahhhâ you hear him shout and you rush out to the other side, letting the tent collapse.
âWhat- what is it?â You ask frantically while Beomgyu jumps about.
âA big fucking giant ass bug just flew in- THERE IT ISâ he screams hiding behind you. You look carefully and you notice a beetle making its way towards your boot. You give it a stomp and kick it away. Now, you were not one to kill insects but you knew Beomgyu wouldnât calm down unless he was sure it was gone.
âThere, itâs goneâ you sigh while he continues to hover behind your shoulder.
âMy saviourâ he says and looks at you with such admiration that you feel less annoyed with him.
âLetâs watch that YouTube video againâ you tell him and huddle over his phone together.
Somehow itâs always been like this. Beomgyu and you had been best friends since, god knows how long. You knew his fears and likes like the back of your hand. He was loud and obnoxious and annoyed you to no end, but Beomgyu had a sensitive side to him, which was why you stuck with him. Once Beomgyu liked you, he stuck to you like gum.
-.-
Itâs almost evening by the time you set up the tent and you both sit outside completely exhausted.
âI canât believe we will have to take it all down in a couple of hoursâ you mutter.
âShh⊠letâs not talk about that and honestly I think it might actually collapse before we have to dismantle itâ Beomgyu tells you placing a finger on your lips and you look at him.
Sometimes it hurts to see how beautiful he is, inside out. But Beomgyu always looked like he had no clue about it which irritated you. He could have girls and guys swooning over him and yet be completely oblivious to it.
College began in a week and the summer break was almost coming to its end.
Your friends would often joke about how Beomgyu and you would âbreakupâ once college starts and sometimes it would get to you, you couldnât imagine a life without him.
Beomgyu had surprised you with his college application though. He didnât tell you but he had applied to your same college and had got in, for which you felt extremely grateful for. College in itself would be a scary experience, and you thank god youâd have Beomgyu by your side.
-.-
âWhat would you do without me ?â Beomgyu laughs as he grills the meat. You patiently wait for it beside him, your only job being cooking the ramen. You were a terrible chef and ramen was your only saving grace.
âHey! I have all the other talents just not cookingâ you huff out. âBesides I have you to grill my meat Chef Choiâ
âHmmâ he murmurs âIâm going to ignore the inuendos thereâ and you slap his shoulder.
âThink about it, you can do the cooking and Iâll keep the bugs awayâ you tell him and Beomgyu smiles.
The sun was setting and despite your complaints you had a great view of the sunset. It was pretty and healing and you felt drunk in coziness.
âHave you talked to your roommate yet ?â Beomgyu asks you. You had gotten separate dorms and Beomgyu had already taken a liking to his roommate. You on the other hand was terrified of reaching out.
âIâll figure it outâ you mutter at him. You had seen her photo and she looked pretty intimidating.
âIâll text her for you, hand me your phoneâ he tells you holding out his gloved hand.
âFuck noâ you say. You were a coward, not a loser. âGyu donât worry about it, I do much better in real life, than onlineâ you tell him.
âAlrightâ he tells you going back to the grilling, âI donât get itâ he says.
âWhat ?â You ask him, opening the ramen pot. It was close to being done.
âYou are shy around everyone else but meâ he huffs out.
âThatâs because Iâve known you since I was threeâ you remind him. It was true. Beomgyu was the only person around whom you could breathe easy and let yourself be. You had terrible social anxiety and if it werenât for him you are pretty sure you wouldnât have any friends.
Beomgyu cuts up the pieces of meat while you turn off the stove and pour the ramen into the bowls. You hand Beomgyu the chopsticks before sitting down beside him.
There is a few moments of comfortable silence as you slurp down your noodles. Beomgyu seems lost in thought and you let him be.
-.-
Itâs almost 7 by the time you wrap up the dishes. You wait outside your tent, which had collapsed only once before you managed to put it up again, with your coffee.
âThis was funâ you tell Beomgyu softly.
âYeahâ he says. Heâs been awfully quiet since dinner and you wondered what happened.
âWhatâs wrong ?â you finally ask him nudging his shoulder so that heâd look at you.
âNothings wrongâ he tells you but you continue looking at him and he rolls his eyes. âWell, donât I ever make you nervous?â he huffs out.
You blink back in surprise. He was still thinking about that ? Beomgyu didnât make you nervous⊠he made you flustered.
âUh⊠not reallyâ you tell him, trying to diffuse the growing tension.
Beomgyu leans in closer and you look away, âNot even a little ?â he whispers and you shiver a bit.
âNoâ you tell him pushing him away but he doesnât budge. Beomgyu leans closer still and you have no option but to look at him.
âNot even when I do this ?â He asks you cupping your cheeks and squishing them, making your lips pout while you shake your head in disagreement. You can feel the heat on your face.
âYou canât lie to save your own lifeâ Beomgyu grins and you hide your face in embarrassment. Beomgyu pulls your hands away from your face, holding it in his own and you look down.
Beomgyu tips up your chin to make you look at him and he has the widest grin. âYou are cuteâ he tells you before leaning away and you try to steady your rising heart rate.
âAnd I like youâ he adds. âMaybe even disgustingly L word youâ
âWhat?â You ask in surprise.
âI thought it was pretty obviousâ he tells you in his own casual way, while you try to figure out what just happened.
âWaitâ you tell him, turning his face so heâd look at you. âYou like me?â
âDuhâ he replies, trying to look calm and collected but you can tell he is nervous taking note of his pink ears. You smile at him and then nod your head.
âArenât you going to say it back ?â Beomgyu whines and you shrug your shoulder.
âWell if itâs so obvious, why should I ?â You tease and Beomgyu pouts at you, âCome on, just say itâ Beomgyu huffs and you almost laugh.
Beomgyu turns away in annoyance and the sight is so familiar to you, that it fills you with warmth. Even when you were kids, Beomgyu would pout and turn away to not look at you when you fought. Sulky boy.
âHeyâ you call him tapping his shoulder, but he refuses to look at you.
âBeomgyuuâ you whine pulling on his jacket, âOfcourse I like you tooâ you tell him shaking his shoulder.
âYou are just saying thatâ he mutters looking at the trees.
âCome on look at meâ you tell him pulling on his arm and he finally turns to you.
âI like you too you dorkâ you tell him, holding his face and the tiniest of smiles play on his lips.
âAnd do I make you nervous ?â Beomgyu asks you.
âYou make me wildâ you tell him, leaning in giving him a soft kiss on his cheeks.
Beomgyu turns your head to capture your lips. The kiss is so soft and gentle and Beomgyu cradles your head and holds you like you are the most precious thing ever.
You lean away and look at Beomgyu again. He is full on smiling and his whisker dimples are so cute that you canât help but kiss his cheeks again.
There is a sound of a crash and you both turn around. The tent had managed to collapse again.
So much for a romantic ending to your day.
-.-
EPILOGUE-
Beomgyu sits in his room, scrolling through TikTokâs. College started in a week and he thinks this would be the perfect time to confess to you. He just doesnât know how.
Beomgyu knew you would hate it if he did something big. And he doesnât want to do something clichĂš. He had asked his friends and all of them gave ideas which got progressively more worse.
Beomgyu sighs and continues scrolling. He passes a few when he comes across a TikTok of a couple on their camping trip and a bulb turns on in his head.
Camping. Sounds perfect. Except he didnât have any equipment. Maybe Kai would have something.
And maybe, just maybe things would work out.

a/n: writers block is a bitch. but itâs here (finally!!!). i know i say this about all my fics but i genuinely enjoy working on atcy. happy reading :))
You rarely felt disoriented when you woke up and so you were very confused about the heavy weight on your stomach and the cramp growing on your neck.
You sit up groggily. Itâs still night out, atleast judging by the clock. You try to focus on the time. 11:00 p.m.
Yeonjun lays sprawled on top of you and it takes you a moment before you jump up from the couch.
âShit, shit, shitâ you clutch your head. Your anxiety is through the roof. The power was back on and your candle was nearly burned out. You curse yourself for your carelessness.
Quickly blowing out your candles you try shaking Yeonjun awake
âCome on! Wake upâ
âHuh-â Yeonjun slowly sits up, rubbing his eyes. He slowly wakes up and smiles at you.
âHiâ
âHi???â You stare at him in disbelief.
âSHIT!â Yeonjun yells, jumping up. He whips around to look at the clock and nearly faints. Yeonjun searches around on the couch for his phone. 5 missed calls from him Mom.
âFuckâ he mutters, holding his head in his hand. âMy mom is gonna kill meâ
You quickly gather around his things, stuffing them into his bag. âItâs alright- just, just tell her you were up late studying.â You tell him in a what you hope is a reassuring tone.
âEasy for you to say. She would go crazy if she knew where I was right now.â Yeonjun tells you grabbing his backpack from you and pacing about. You pause.
âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â You ask him, crossing your hands. Easy for you?
âNo- what I meant was you donât have anyone to answer to- i mean-â Yeonjun starts. Everything he tries to say comes out wrong.
You look back at him, stricken.
âY/N- listen-â he starts again.
âItâs late, you should get going.â You tell him calmly. Blood rushes through your ears. Deafening almost.
âI didnât mean-â Yeonjun takes a step towards you.
âPleaseâ you tell him, turning away.
Yeonjun feels helpless. He is late. His mom is probably worried sick. He doesnât know what exactly to say to you.
You hear the door close behind you. You knew this was bound to happen. It had almost seemed too good to be true. What were you thinking?
You kick away the lone cushion lying down back on the couch. Nobody to see the lone tear that has escaped.
-.-
It was easy enough to avoid Yeonjun. You rarely had anything in common which was nice considering how thinks went down. You took great lengths to ensure that your paths never crossed. A fine plan. Working finely atleast for the last week.
Except for being lab partners. You ignored Yeonjunâs gaze on you as much as you could. You pretended not to hear him. If you tried hard enough you could almost pretend like he was invisible. (But this was Choi Yeonjun and that is a near impossible task).
You knew you were being too much. He had apologised and besides it was not even that serious. But something in you, your pride, was not letting it go.
âYou cannot keep skipping lunchâ Ryujin sighs as she sits down next to you. You had an hour for lunch break and lately you had been killing it here on the football ground, right below the stands.
âThank youâ you tell her accepting the sandwich gratefully. âBesides, itâs only temporaryâ
Ryujin raises her eyebrows at you in question. âI mean- he will soon move onâ you tell her in between gulps.
âYou really are dense. Move on? What is he? Your boyfriend??â Ryujin shakes her head at you.
You roll your eyes at her.
âSeriously. You can rush out of lab everytime but what about me? He has been needling me. Incessantlyâ she tells you. âYou need to let go of your egoâ
âMe?â You scoff at her. âHe is an impossible prick. I regret ever having even talked to himâ
âAnd what did he do so wrong??â Ryujin throws her hand up in the air.
You glare at her. âI canât believe youâre on his side on this.â
âIâm not on his side! I wish you would at least hear him out. He panicked. You know how people say dumb shit when they are not in their right minds, right?â Ryujin argues with you while you stuff the last of your sandwich into your mouth. âNot everyone is waiting around to bail on you Y/Nâ
âI donât want to talk about this anymoreâ you tell her getting up not quite processing her words.
You can see the arguments forming on her lips.
âRyu, please.â
âFine. Go ahead. Be a dick.â
âThank youâ
-.-
âSo we are back to square one huhâ Taehyun asks snidely as he passes the ball to Yeonjun.
Yeonjun doesnât bother with a reply. You barely even looked at him anymore. What more could hurt him?
âCut it out, Tyunâ Soobin scolds as he runs past. Yeonjun misses his shot yet again.
âBreakâ he says, dropping down on to the ground. Yeonjun can feel the other boys looking at him. His form has been terrible the last few days.
Yeonjun stares at his shoes for a while. He had spent almost an year trying to get you to talk to him and the last one week trying to find out how he could fuck that up so badly. How could he say those things to you?
âListen, give her space. She will come aroundâ Sobbin tells him quietly.
âShe doesnât even miss meâ Yeonjun mumbles, pathetically.
Soobin looks at Yeonjun for a minute before passing a glance at Taehyun.
âActually-â he starts and Yeonjun snaps his head up so quickly that Soobin has to fight down his smirk.
âActually, what?â
âI think she misses you too.â Soobin tells him.
âYouâre just saying thatâ Yeonjun says trying not to get his hopes up.
âShe called me by your nameâ Soobin tells him. âShe has also been so absent minded that she nearly earned a detention yesterdayâ
âWhat?â
âAnd she keeps stealing glances at you when you are not lookingâ Taehyun adds.
âWhy didnât you guys tell me all this before?â Yeonjun huffs out.
âThought Iâd let you suffer for a little. Itâs not common to see the famous Choi Yeonjun being rejectedâ Soobin giggles.
Yeonjun gives a shove to the other boy with no real force his mind racing a 1000 miles an hour.
You miss him?
-.-
The summer was turning out to be the hottest one yet. The occasional downpour only raised the humidity levels. Jinâs dinner basically felt like hell on earth these days.
âThere is someone here to see youâ Beomgyu tells you.
Your stomach nearly drops to the ground when you realise itâs for you. She canât be back that soon right?
Jin looks over at you concerned. âWho is it?â
Beomgyu shrugs his shoulders in reply. âI donât knowâ
The little prick. You drown out Jinâs reprimands as you wipe down your hands at the front of your apron before making your way to the back door.
The cool night air hits your face as you open the door.
Yeonjun.
Relief floods through you. Itâs not her. Youâre so happy that you even forget to look mad at him.
Yeonjun notices the way your shoulders ease up. This could be a good sign.
âY/N-â he starts.
âWhy are you here? Are you stalking me?â You ask him.
âHow is it stalking when it was you who told me where you worked??â Yeonjun wonders out loud. This was a bad approach.
âWhy are you here?â You repeat again. Your face is blank as you stare at him. If only he could hear your heartbeat.
âWell you wouldnât talk to me in class. You avoid lunch. You donât answer my calls. How else am I supposed to talk to you?â Yeonjun asks. He feels a little frustrated.
âTalk then.â
âWhat?â
âYou said you wanted to talk. Talk. Iâm listeningâ you tell him coolly (not really. it was costing you a lot trying to be non-chalant).
Yeonjun runs a hand across his face. Exasperated. âFine.â
Yeonjun takes a step towards you and you take a step back, leaning against the door making him pause.
âI donât have all nightâ you tell him.
âY/N. Iâm sorry. Iâm sorry I said that to you. I canât even imagine how hurt you mustâve been. Iâm really sorry. I didnât mean it. You know I didnât mean it.â He tells you. Yeonjunâs eyes are wide and for a moment youâre scared that he might cry.
The door opens right on cue making you lose your balance. You land down hard on your bum. âOwâ you cry out looking up angrily to see Jinâs worried face.
âYah! Why would you lean against the door??â He scolds you before picking you up.
âWhy are you here?âYou fire back rub your aching bum.
âTo check on you, why else?â Jinâs voice is almost indignant.
You shake your head before turning around to Yeonjun.
Yeonjun was waging a war with himself trying not to laugh, his shaking shoulders giving him away. You narrow your eyes at him.
âWho is this?â Jin questions.
âIâm Yeonjun. Choi Yeonjunâ Yeonjun starts forward holding out his hand to Jin. Jin takes his hand, confused.
âThe kid youâve been tutoring?â He asks you not letting go of Yeonjuns hand. You nod your head at him.
âI thought you were tutoring a child.â Jin says. Yeonjun looks on politely. Jin drops his hand in realisation. âIâm Seokjin. Iâm Y/Nâs uncleâ
âNo you are not.â You laugh out.
âI jolly well could beâ Jin huffs out. âNow,â Jin turns around to Yeonjun âWe have never met before but Y/N has told me a lot about you-â
âNo I havenât, stop lying-â
â-I can see that you are good friends. But I dont want to see any funny business between the two of you. This tutoring-â
âOh my god. Stopâ you step in between them.
âOfcourse Sir. I would never dream of itâ Yeonjun answers solemnly. He has also adopted an expression apt for someone standing beside a deathbed.
You stare at him incredulously. You canât tell if he is being serious or not.
âOkay. Now I want you back inside in five minutesâ Jin tells you going back in âAnd no leaning against the doorâ
You hold the bridge of your nose. This might as well be a dream.
Taking a deep breath you look back at Yeonjun. Not knowing where to start.
âOkay-â
âI was clearly wrongâ Yeonjun tells you. You look at him questioningly.
âOfcourse you have people to answer toâ Yeonjun rubs the back of his head. Sheepishly. âIâm sorry Y/N.â
You consider him for a moment. âItâs not that Yeonjun.â
He waits for you to go on. You sigh.
âIâm not very good at this. Person to person. I have a hard time letting people into my life.â As it is, you add quietly into your head.
Yeonjun waits on. âBut..?â
âThere are no butâs. Thatâs the point. I suck at relationships.â Yeonjun raises his eyebrows at you. âPlatonic or otherwiseâ you rush to add.
âThatâs crazyâ he tells you.
âI knowâ
âBut⊠youâre giving me a chance, right?â The little note of hope is enough to kill you.
You wait. A thousand arguments form in your head. Funnily enough a quote from Timothee Chalamet play out in your head. Life is coming from you and not at you.
You look back at him. before nodding your head. A hint of a smile plays on your lips. Yeonjun steps forward and you donât move back.
You still donât move away when he slowly wraps his arm around you. His scent is familiar to you now. You try to breathe him in.
âIâm sorry too. Friends?â You ask him trying to look up at his face.
âYouâre so goofy under all that toughnessâ Yeonjun laughs pushing your head back into his chest. âI missed youâ
You punch his chest lightly trying to hide your embarrassment.
The door smashes open again and you run back inside before Jin can get out no more than âNow what did I say about the funny business-â

fic below cut
Beomgyu who didnât think twice when his dad proposed the question to him. He was not one to be bothered by love or finding the right one and out of the options he had you seemed to be the best choice. Your familyâs knew each other and he has known you since you were babies and all through high school. You guys werenât exactly friends but you were always there for all the major events in his life.
You, who were taken by surprise at the news, felt even more puzzled out when you heard that Beomgyu had agreed to marry you. He could have any girl. Handsome and charismatic you wonder why he agreed to marry you. Sure, it made sense in a business sense. With you marrying Beomgyu itâd further cement the relationship between your families and really boost your dads businesses. Maybe Beomgyu had his own reasons like you did.
The wedding is a quiet affair, mostly consisting of family friends and couple of your own. The day passes by in a daze and before you even realise it youâre standing in front of Beomgyu.
He looked dashing in his suit. Beomgyu gives you a small smile before giving his vows. You repeat your vows and he leanes down to give a small peck on your lips.
Your families cheer for you and you watch as your mom cries, tears of your own falling down from your cheeks. Beomgyu quietly hands you his handkerchief and you wipe them away, thanking him.
Something in Beomgyuâs chest hardens at the sight of your tears. The marriage had been nothing but one of convenience for him and he wonders whether that was unfair to you. He didnât really know you all that well. You were quiet and kept to yourself a lot. But when you were really small you would read out stories to him while he dozed off next to you.
Now, looking at you standing next to him as his wife Beomgyu slowly realises how much time has actually flown by. Feeling his eyes own you, you turn around. Beomgyu is staring at you with an unreadable expression. You give him a quick smile which seems to break him out of his daze. He smiles back at you.
-.-
Itâs been a week of your marriage. You are slowly adjusting to his house trying to grow familiar with your new environment. Beomgyu leaves early for work and comes home late at night. You on the other hand do your job at the school. The new academic year has just begun and you were trying not to drown in your hectic schedule.
âHey, mind if I use your hair dryer? Mine seems to be brokenâ Beomgyuâs question brings you back to reality.
âHuh- yea- no, go aheadâ you tell him. You were folding your laundry. You and Beomgyu shared a room, but that was it. You didnât know when he came to bed or when he rose. The slightly rumpled sheets the only evidence that he had spend the night with you.
It was rare for you to be together at the same time. Being the weekend, it was your off day and you usually spend it at home passing your time doing one of your many hobbies. Beomgyu usually stayed in the study and you figure thatâs where he is probably headed after his shower.
Packing up your stuff in to your closet, you head to the kitchen. The dough you had gotten ready for the cookies wouldâve probably cooled by now. Opening up your refrigerator, you take out the dough when you hear footsteps. You look around to see Beomgyu making his way towards you.
âHungryâ he answers to your questioning look and you nod your head.
âWould you like some pancakes ?â You ask him, setting down the dough.
âUh- thatâs cookie dough, sweetheartâ he tells you with a smile leaning against the counter.
âDuh- I know, I made itâ you tell him rolling your eyes. âI have some batter left, but if youâre going to be a smartass about it, then I guess noâ you tell him going back to your business.
âNoooâ Beomgyu drawls out and you raise an eyebrow at him âPlease Iâd love to have some pancakes, if itâs not a bother for youâ he adds.
You try to hide your smile, picking up the batter. You look around and Beomgyuâs still watching you. âSitâ
âYes Maâamâ he sighs before sitting down on the countertop.
Beomgyu watches you as you work around the kitchen. Itâs still new to have you around his house, but he likes it. He likes the little decorations youâve put up on your bedside table. He likes the soft sound of your breathing when he lies down to sleep. He just wishes he had more time to spend with you. But business has been tough as of late. The new merger was taking up almost all of his time. He feels bad about leaving you alone immediately after your marriage but it is what it is.
âThere you go, banana or strawberry? Wait- donât answer thatâ you tell him cutting up strawberries for him.
âYou rememberâ Beomgyu says softly and you look up at him.
âOfcourse, canât remember the number of times Iâve had to drink banana milk because of you and your obsession with strawberriesâ you tell him disdainfully.
âYah- you liked bananas so was it really a sacrifice?â Beomgyuâs huffs at you before taking a bite of his pancake.
âHow is it?â You ask him leaning down on your elbows.
âDeliciousâ he answers with his mouth full and you smile at him before picking up a strawberry from his plate.
âWhat do you plan on doing today?â Beomgyu asks you.
âRotting on the couch with my new bookâ you tell him happily and he rolls his eyes which you ignore.
âWhat about you- lemme guess, hmm working!â You say tilting your head to the left and Beomgyu considers you for a moment.
âItâs called being productive, sweetheartâ he tells you sweetly.
âReading is productive and Iâm not your sweetheartâ you tell him mocking his tone.
âYouâre literally my wifeâ he deadpans, âIâm legally obliged to call you sweetheartâ
âOkay Honeyâ you tell him before heading off to the sofa and plopping down picking up your book.
Beomgyu is about to say something when his phone rings. He sighs before he answers. Work calls.
-.-
Blinking away from the brightness of the screen Beomgyu takes note of the time. Itâs nearly four in the evening.
He wonders if you have had lunch, heâs been completely focused on his work that he forgot about his surroundings, about you. Guilt grips him again as he makes his way downstairs.
Youâre passed out on the couch, the book resting on your chest. He wonders how long youâve been asleep. Gently pushing away a strand of hair, he is about to wake you up when a message pops up on your phone
Sunghyun đ€- Cant wait to see you tomorrow!!
Beomgyu scoffs. Who was this man ? Does he know youâre married? Why was he texting you ? WHY DO YOU HAVE A HEART SHAPED EMOJI NEXT TO HIS NAME???
âYou know, itâs not nice to snoop through someone elseâs stuffâ you grumble quietly and Beomgyu nearly jumps.
âFuckâ he says clutching his chest. âI was not snooping, i was just waking you up when the notification popped upâ he adds on quickly.
âUh-huhâ you tell him holding out your hand for your phone. Beomgyu gives it to you before sitting down next to you on the couch.
You open your notifications. A couple are from your work friends and one from your mom.
You type out quick replies, before putting your phone back down and turning around to face beomgyu.
âWhoâs Sunghyun?â Beomgyu asks you looking down at his nails.
âHuh?â You ask, still disoriented from your nap.
âSunghyun. Who is he?â Beomgyu asks again impatiently. He feels angry at this Sunghyun. âDoes he not know youâre married?â
You take a look at Beomgyu before bursting into laughter.
âWhat.â Beomgyu asks you surprised at your reaction.
Youâre still giggling when you answer him, âSunghyunâs me friendâ you tell him.
âAnd why is that funny? Does he not know boundaries?â Beomgyu huffs out.
âNo silly, Sunghyuns a girl. And Iâm unfortunately not into girls, neither is she I believeâ you tell him grinning.
Beomgyu wished for the ground to open up and swallow him whole. He clutched the bridge of his nose as if to ward off the reddening of his cheeks.
âBet, youâre reallllyyy embarrassed right nowâ you tell him in a playful tone trying to see his face as Beomgyu hides it behind his hands.
âStopp, I was just askingâ he whines out.
âYeah, yeahâ you say smiling. Getting up you head to the kitchen to grab water.
âDoes Sunghyun not know youâre married??â You do your best imitation of Beomgyu as you sit back on the couch. Beomgyu looks at you with narrowed eyes.
âAlright Iâll stopâ you tell him. âWhat do you wanna eat ?â You ask him.
âRight now?â Beomgyu asks you wide eyes.
âYeah- you havenât had lunch yet, have you?â You ask him.
âNo.â Beomgyu replies.
âSo, letâs eat something. What do you want to have?â You ask him.
âYou havenât had lunch?â He asks you incredulously. His phone starts ringing again and Beomgyu mutes it.
âNo, I was waiting for you, guess I fell asleep thenâ you answer him, moving around your kitchen.
âYou donât have to wait up for meâ he tells you sharply and you look at him.
âI know.â You tell him curtly. Anger flares up inside you.
âNo, what I meant was- you donât have to wait like that for me, I eat whenever I get the time-â Beomgyu tells you in a softer tone.
âI got itâ you tell him. âWell, Iâm making pasta, would you like to have some?â
âNo- I mean- Iâd love to- but I have a meeting to attend to right nowâ Beomgyu tells you getting up. He doesnât understand why he gets muddled up with his words when heâs next to you.
âYou havenât had anything since those pancakes⊠you need to eatâ you tell him, irritatedly.
âWork callsâ he answers you curtly.
âOn a weekend? You donât see me answering mine. You need to set boundariesâ you tell him. Beomgyu is going through his phone, not paying attention to you.
âWell, my job demands this. And anyways how hard is it being a teacherâ The words are out of his mouth before he thinks through them. He looks up at you and youâre standing there staring at him in disbelief.
An awkward silence settles over the both of you. Beomgyu feels defensive and you feel hurt beyond words.
âRight. Um- guess Iâm making dinner for one then. Why donât you go ahead with your tough job?â You ask him turning away. You hate yourself for being sensitive like this.
âY/N- thatâs not-â Beomgyu starts and his phone rings again.
âWork callsâ you tell him, pointing at his phone before walking into your bedroom and shutting the door.
Left alone, in the hall, Beomgyu sighs in defeat as his phone starts ringing again.
-.-
Beomgyu is sitting on his side of the bed, looking through his phone with his earphones in when you walk in. You barely give him a glance as you tie your hair into its usual bedtime braid.
Beomgyu watches you out of the corner of his eyes. He feels restless and uneasy at the thought of your conversation earlier. He wants to say sorry and fix things with you but he doesnât know where to start.
You fluff up your pillows before lying down on your side of the bed, completely ignoring Beomgyuâs presence beside you. What he said to you was unacceptable and you still feel angry at the thought of it.
Scrolling through your phone, you respond to texts, giggling at a few from your friends. Beomgyu clears his throat but you turn away from him. You know itâs childish but you canât help it.
Beomgyu sighs once again before removing his headphones. He looks over at your back. He wants to reach out but he just doesnât know how.
You finally turn around and lie on your back. Youâre smiling at something on your phone and texting back rapidly
Beomgyu feels a spike of jealousy.
âDonât you have to wake up early tomorrow?â He asks you and you ignore him, which successfully makes him even more irritated.
Beomgyu snatches your phone out of your hand suddenly,
âHey-â
âI asked you a questionâ he tells you looking at you. You refuse to look back at him, trying to get your phone back, which he holds high up above you.
You try to grab hold of his arm but he is not even budging and you lie back down in frustration. Beomgyu tries to hide his growing smirk.
âI donât know Beomgyu- my job is anyways not that important so does it really matter?â You huff out. Staring at the ceiling, still refusing to look into your eyes.
Beomgyu leans over you, trying to catch your eyes and you turn away from him, but he grabs your chin, making you look at him.
âYouâre so childishâ he tells you. How dare he?
You push his hand away, getting up. Youâre about to get off from the bed when Beomgyu grabs hold of your waist, pulling you back in.
âLet me go-â
âNo- I donât care how angry youâre at me, we sleep in the same bedâ he tells you trying to hold you down.
âWhyâ you ask him struggling to free yourself.
âBecause itâs on our vows. In sickness and in healthâŠâ he starts
âYes not in anger and in spiteâ you finally stop struggling, lying still. Stupid strong man.
âGive me back my phoneâ you tell him.
âHere you goâ he says handing it over to you. âWho are you texting at this hour? Doesnât Sunghyun sleep?â He asks you, curiosity getting the better of him.
âWho says Iâm texting Sunghyun?â You tell him, adjusting the pillows around you. Beomgyu leans over you trying to read your texts and you push him away.
âGet your nosey ass away from meâ you say.
âWho are you texting? Does he know youâre my wife?â He starts again.
âOh my god- why donât I get that tattoed on my head âMarried to Choi Beomgyuâ maybe thatâd keep away everyoneâ you tell him tiredly, switching off your phone.
âWould make you infinitely more attractiveâ Beomgyu tells you lying back down.
You pretend to gag, setting up a pillow between you.
âWhatâs this for?â Beomgyu asks.
âI donât want you crossing over to my partâ you tell him, pulling the blanket over yourself.
âSo childishâ he mutters before turning off the bedside lamp.
-.-
Waking up you know somethingâs immediately wrong. Your body feels sore and a slight movement is enough to set you into a world of pain. You cannot be having a fever right now.
Youâre about to get up when you notice a pair of hands and legs thrown over your body. Beomgyu has you in his grasp. Clearly a pillow fortress is not enough to keep this man away. Turning around in his hold, you take note of his sleeping form. He looks angel like when heâs asleep.
Slowly extricating yourself from his arms you get up and your world shifts.
âWhoa-â you mutter grasping into the bed frame. Your ears ring and black clouds the edges of your vision.
You force yourself to walk upto the bathroom but your body gives up midway.
-.-
A thousand needles pin you. Or atleast thatâs how it feels. Your entire body is aching when you wake up. You feel disoriented for a moment looking at the white ceiling.
You jump up in shock when someone pushes you back down.
âYour ass is not getting out of that bed unless I tell youâ Beomgyu tells you roughly.
âWhat-â you start but it comes out more as a croak. You take note of his appearance. He looks a little rough. There is stubble on his jaw and he looks like he hasnât slept at all.
âWhy wouldnât you tell me if you were sickâ Beomgyu starts again. He is sitting by your side. The curtains are closed around your bed.
âItâs not that seriousâ you tell him carelessly, noting the flowers on the curtains. Beomgyu follows your eyes.
âI requested for a private room but only the ward was availableâ he tells you softly and your eyes snap back to him.
âHuh? No, I-â you start. He was getting this wrong. âI donât like hospitalsâ you tell him in a small voice.
âNobody doesâ he answers.
âNo I know- I just, can we go home?â You ask him voice wobbly and you hate yourself for it. Beomgyu looks at you in concern.
âWeâll go soon, waiting for the doc you know?â He tells you arranging the blankets around you. You take note of how youâre wearing his shirt. Did you vomit on yourself? What happened? You feel too embarrassed to ask.
âDid you miss work because of me?â You ask him looking at him with watery eyes.
âNo, no it doesnât matter right now, please rest Y/Nâ he tells you pushing you down again.
You cover your eyes with your arm not wanting for him to see you in such a vulnerable position. You donât miss the way he sighs.
-.-
Itâs nearly evening when your doctor visits you, going over a few medications and advising you to rest for the next couple of days he finally gives you the green signal to go home.
Beomgyuâs arm rests around your waist, supporting you into the car. You barely remember the ride back home, crashing into your bed the moment you reach home.
When you wake up, Beomgyu is still beside you. He is sleeping, neck bent at an odd angle and you gently shake him awake.
âWhat- are you okay? Do you need anythingâ he asks you bleary eyed and jumping up.
âNo-no. Calm down. Iâm alrightâ you tell him and he settles back down. He looks extra bear like in his sleepy state and your heart swells a little.
âGo sleep. Iâm alright now and you need to be in Office tomorrowâ you tell him.
âYeahâ he tells you smiling sheepishly, starting to climb into your bed.
âNo- not here. You shouldnât be sleeping next to meâ you tell him immediately, pushing him away.
âWhat do you mean??â He asks you confused still hovering over the bed.
âNo youâll catch my feverâ you tell him shaking your head.
Beomgyu stares at you for a moment before climbing back into the bed. âIf thatâs the case, Iâd have probably caught it by nowâ he tells you lying down and pushing you back into the bed.
You get up again, âI donât want you to get sick on my accountâ you tell him, stubborn.
âGod, just lie down Y/N, Iâm more strong than you thinkâ he tells you pulling you down next to him.
You cross your arms over your chest, annoyed. Beomgyu smiles to himself at the sight, before pulling you closer to him.
You look over at him and he is looking at you so softly that you feel shy.
âGânight Sweetheartâ he murmurs before falling asleep.
âGoodnightâ
-.-
Itâs been three days. Three days since you last went to School. Beomgyu is driving you up the wall.
âIâm FINEâ you nearly scream when he rushes over to help you as you get up from the couch that evening.
âAlright, alrightâ he tells you holding his hands up in surrender.
âI will be going to school tomorrow- NO- Iâm not asking your permission- I will be going to school tomorrowâ you almost stomp your foot in anger but hold yourself back.
âThe doctor told you-â Beomgyu starts and you cut him off immediately-
âTo rest for a couple of days. Itâs been three. THREE. I have so much of work to catch up onâ you huff out. âOfcourse my job is not a real job in your eyesâ Beomgyu winces at that, âbut I need to be there tomorrowâ
âOkay. Okay. But Iâll drop you and pick you upâ Beomgyu tells you. He can already see the arguments forming on your lips. âFor my sake Y/N, do it for my sakeâ he nearly pleades and you take a moment before nodding your agreement.
Atleast you get to go back to work.
âAlright, now, will my precious little wife do me the honour of having her dinner?â He asks you.
âDepends on what my precious little husband has cooked for dinner. If itâs another bowl of oatmeal, youâll be featured on tomorrowâs headlinesâ you tell him sweetly.
âWhy is my oatmeal that good?â He asks you wiggling his eyebrows suggestively and you hold back your laughter.
âWife kills husband in an interesting turn of events, wherein he served her oatmeal three times a day for three daysâ you do your best news anchor voice.
âHa- ha. Here comes the airplane, open your mouth woooâ Beomgyu answers back, settling down next to you and bringing a spoonful of, surprise, oatmeal.
-.-
âAre you sure about thisâ Beomgyu asks, yet again, sitting at the foot of your bed.
âYesssssssssâ you drawl out applying your lip gloss. You were wearing your normal white skirt and blue shirt, tying up your hair in a low bun. You glance at Beomgyu through the mirror. He sits ready for work, waiting patiently for you.
âHmm, which perfume should I wear for todayâ you ask more to your self that anyone else.
âThe one that smells like caramelâ Beomgyu immediately answers. You look over at him with an eyebrow raised and he shrugs his shoulders.
âAlright then, Iâm doneâ you tell him. âHow do I look ?â You ask him giving him a twirl as he gets up from the bed.
âHideousâ he tells you walking to the door, trying to calm his rising heart rate.
-.-
âOkay, leave. Now.â You tell him tugging off the seatbelt.
âGood day to you tooâ he mocks.
âAw, have a nice day my lovely pumpkinâ you coo pinching his cheeks before jumping off of your seat and waving him goodbye.
Beomgyu waves back his hand coming to rest on his cheek. He watches you walk towards the school. Your coat bellowing around you in the wind. He wonders if he shouldâve forced you to wear the scarf too.
Looking over, Beomgyu notices a kid running as if to catch upto you. The little boy reaches you and you immediately pat his head, giving him a lovely smile. The boy holds up his hand to you, and Beomgyu watches as you smile down widely at the boy before taking the childâs hands in your own.
Without knowing it himself, Beomgyu is smiling too, watching you.
-.-
A few days pass in the same manner. Youâve grown so used to Beomgyuâs presence that it feels weird to go to work without him.
Making him laugh was your favourite thing. To watch his whisker dimples on full display and his eyes form crescent moons, you feel warmth spread through you. Sometimes it scares you. You were bordering on falling for him that it terrified you. You knew this marriage was one of convenience and Beomgyu would never feel the same way but your heart continued to hope.
Also, you were driven mad with need. To have one of the most handsome men youâve met right next to you, laughing along with you was one thing. To have his hands brush against yours every once in a while, watching those thick veins work their way around a steering wheel was a completely different thing. Waking up next to him with his deep voice right next to yours, having him wrap you in his arms every night, albeit unconsciously was leading you to the edge of insanity.
Unbeknownst to you, Beomgyu was not faring much better. He has grown so attached to you that the thought of being away from you was unthinkable. Every job he did felt like a hurdle to reach you. He loved listening to you talk. You were so animated, hands flying around and having the most comic expressions, he wanted more and more. At the end of the day, Beomgyu was also a man. He knew you slept without a bra on. Your warm body pressed against his and your sweet smelling hair, the way you threw you head back in laughter, exposing your neck to him⊠Beomgyu felt like he was on a sensory overload.
Yet, he remained a patient man.
-.-
Beomgyu was working away on his laptop when you walked into his study. He looked up and smiled immediately. You were standing at the door, fidgeting, holding a cup and wearing your long camisole.
Beomgyu checks the time. Itâs nearly midnight. He just had to figure out this assignment before he slept.
âWell, arenât you gonna come in?â Beomgyu asks you and you walk upto his table.
âItâs hot cocoaâ you tell him before placing down the cup on the table. âDo you have a lot to do?â
âJust this one thingâ he tells you pointing to the graph âyou go ahead and sleep, Iâll come soonâ
You look over at the graph before you, leaning in to get a closer look.
âAhh, you canât figure out whether to sell or stayâ you tell him looking at the stock market indicators. Beomgyu looks at you in surprise.
âI know my stuffâ you tell him, âyou neednt look so surprisedâ
âIs that so? Well would my lovely wife advise me on what i should do then?â He asks you smiling.
You lean down further to see the graph and Beomgyu without warning pulls you down onto his lap.
You turn to look over at him. âWas this your master plan to get me into your lap?â You ask him, dragging the laptop closer to you and adjusting around him.
âSweetheart you literally came in holding cocoa, thatâs code for âi wanna sit on your lapââ he tells you
âGoofy assâ you reply rolling your eyes and Beomgyu drags you closer to him. His breath is so close to your ear that you find it difficult to concentrate on anything but you force yourself to look at the chart before you.
Looking at the rise and fall of the stock you analyse it further to understand itâs behaviour.
âHmm⊠Iâd advise you to stayâ you tell him quietly after a while.
âWhyâ his voice is close to a whisper and you try not to react to it, pressing your thighs together. An action not missed by Beomgyu.
âUhâŠâ you feel out of breath. Get a grip! You tell yourself strongly. âSee hereâ you tell him pointing at the graph. Beomgyu rests his chin on your shoulder looking at the place you are pointing.
âThe stock has always broken through every time it has hit a barrier and the highs and lows are getting closer and closer, so get ready for the boomâ you say the boom looking at his face and Beomgyu grins.
âHow do you know all thisâ voice so loving that youâre taken by surprise. He turns you around on his lap, so that you sit sideways, arms around his shoulder.
âI- uh- I used to do trading for dadâ you tell him in a small voice.
âWhy did you stop?â He asks you trying to look into your eyes.
âIt was not for me. I hate how obsessive I got with itâ how obsessive he got with it, you add silently.
Beomgyu rubs a soothing hand over your thigh and you resist the urge to shiver. He smirks at you and you roll your eyes at him, ready to get up, but Beomgyu holds onto your waist.
Beomgyu glances down at your lips and looks back into your eyes. Your doe eyed stare is enough to sent him over the edge, he pulls you closer to him, your body fitting perfectly into his.
âSomeoneâs eagerâ you tease him in a whisper, voice full of mirth and Beomgyu cups your cheeks with one hand.
âIâm your husband, sweetheart and husbands have rightsâ he tells you lowly, face getting closer and closer to yours.
âHmm⊠do they?â You ask him, acting like you were thinking about it. Beomgyu nearly growls at you, frustration building up inside him.
âEasy tigerâ you laugh, holding his face in your hands and placing a small kiss on his nose. Beomgyuâs grip on your waist tightens and he leans down to your lips, face impossibly close to yours.
âCan I kiss you?â He asks you before capturing your lips with his. The kiss is heated, Beomgyuâs tongue incessantly moving against your own as if to try and get back the last bit of cocoa from your mouth. Your head feels woozy and you try to calm yourself but you feel yourself losing control. You grip onto his shoulders and bite his bottom lip and Beomgyu moans into your mouth, the sound music to your ears.
Beomgyu breaks away first, eyes still closed as if trying to ground himself. Youâre not doing much better. Youâve never wanted anyone more in your life. Beomgyu grins at you and you try to kiss his whisker dimples.
âSomeoneâs eagerâ he laughs and you shake your head.
âOfcourse Iâm eagerâ you tell him, âhave you seen yourself?â You ask kissing him once more.
âJust - â Beomgyuâs phone starts ringing and you both look down at it. You see Kaiâs caller ID and try not to sigh. Do investment bankers not get the concept of sleep?
âFuckâ Beomgyu mutters. You get up from his lap, but Beomgyu tries to pull you down.
âBaby- just a minuteâ he tells you eyes apologetic and you feel bad.
âTake your timeâ you tell him softly before walking out the door.
-.-
Beomgyu is not beside you when you wake up. Slightly disoriented, you get up from your bed. What time was it?
Itâs only 7, you make your way down the stairs. Beomgyu stands by the kitchen, already dressed for work.
âHiâ you tell him groggily. âWhy are you up so earlyâ you ask him, plopping down on the seat.
âEarly meeting. We have a gala to attend tonightâ He tells you adjusting his tie.
âWhat.â You ask him spluttering.
âBe ready by 5â he says turning around and looking at you.
âBeomgyu, I have a parents teachers meet todayâ you tell him urgently.
âWell, get done with it soon. This is importantâ he says taking out his phone.
âBut- this is my job! I donât even have an outfit-â you start panicking.
âI know but this is really important. We need to be thereâ he says. âIâm sorryâ
âOh, are you really?!â You ask him angrily. You couldnât understand him. One day he was acting all sweet and loving and the next day, it was like you meant nothing.
âI donât have the time for this right nowâ he says walking to the door.
âWhen do you ever have the time?â You ask following behind him.
âKeep your voice down!â He tells you harshly.
âOh fuck you-â you nearly scream.
Beomgyu slams the door on the way out.

a/n: writers block is a bitch. but itâs here (finally!!!). i know i say this about all my fics but i genuinely enjoy working on atcy. happy reading :))
The door smashes open again and you run back inside before Jin can get out no more than âNow what did I say about the funny business-â

âThis is your house?â Yeonjun stands still in front of your gate.
âWhat? It doesnât meet your expectations?â You ask. You were used to this question and you knew he would ask you the same.
You walk in as Yeonjun still stands by your gate, âAre you planning on coming in?â
âYeahâ he clears his throat and follows you inside as you unlock your door.
Yeonjuns brows knit themselves together into a frown as he walks in. He couldnât figure how more than one person could live here. There is a small drawing room with a table and a green couch, books are kept in stacks on one side of the room and on the other side is a small kitchen. There is a little hallway leading to one room which he assumes to be a bedroom and what could be a bathroom opposite to it. Yeonjun feels something hardening in his chest.
You find him inspecting your house and for some reason you feel like laughing at his concerned expression.
âWhere are your parents ?â He asks you quietly as you pull down a cushion and make yourself comfortable on the ground, placing your books on to the small round table.
âNot hereâ you reply âCome, sit down. You can sit on the couch if you want toâ
âYou live alone ?â he asks you incredulously.
âMostlyâ you tell him âDone investigating, Officer?â
Yeonjun picks up the other cushion and sits opposite to you. âSorry, I didnât mean to intrudeâ he tells you.
You nod your head âLetâs get started then. We will go over your grammar and then work on the chapters, yeah?â
âOkay, sounds goodâ Yeonjun replies. You can tell something in him has shifted, by his attitude towards you. Well, you were used to this and rarely felt embarrassed about your situation.
-.-
Time goes by quickly, the clock indicating that it was already seven at night. Yeonjun yawns and you close up your textbook. It had gone much more smoothly than you had expected. He didnât seem as stuck up as before and some of his antics almost made you laugh out loud. Still, you couldnât let yourself lower your walls to him.
âThatâs enough for todayâ you tell him. You felt hungry and you are pretty sure he must be starving too.
âArenât you hungry?â you ask him, getting up and stretching.
âIâm alrightâ he tells you but the rumbles from his stomach tell you otherwise.
âI have ramyeon, have some before you goâ you tell him walking over to your kitchen.
You turn on the stove, aware that he is watching you. You sigh, âGo ahead, ask meâ you tell him waiting for the water to boil.
Yeonjun gets up and walks over to the kitchen, hopping up on the table top. To say he was surprised by todayâs turn of events would be an understatement. He felt much more aware of you, like you were a real person instead of just someone he found interesting and was infatuated with.
Not that his feelings towards you suddenly changed, he could see you had a much more softer side to you than what you let on. But, after spending time at your house and with you he feels as though he has seen something that was meant to be a secret. You didnât seem like you were trying to hide anything, in fact you seemed to welcome his questions, almost like a challenge.
âWhat happened to your parents ?â He asks you.
âHmm, letâs see, Mom left me when I was 15, although that isnât the first time she has walked off, no clue about who my Dad is or what happened to himâ you reply as nonchantly as possible.
âHow⊠how do you live like this?â He asks you softly, afraid of offending you.
âPart time jobs and She sends me an allowance every monthâ you tell him looking up at him finally. The noodles were nearly done and this is the closest youâve ever let anyone get to you outside of Ryujin and Jin.
Yeonjun nods his head and looks at you giving you a small smile. Thoughts were racing through his mind, each trying to win him over but the one he felt the most was how foolish he had been to assume you were some girl he had to woo over.
âWhy, did you expect a big mansion or something?â You ask him before turning off the stove.
âNo. But I didnât expect this eitherâ he tells you picking up bowls and spoons as if it were natural to him.
You place the pot on the table and sit down on your cushion, slurping up the noddles immediately and Yeonjun follows suit.
You look over at him and he is smiling at you.
âYou are kind off cool, you know?â He tells you.
âOh for sure, poverty and absent parents indeed increases oneâs coolnessâ you reply dryly and he laughs before diving back into his food.
-.-
Why do earphones insist on tangling up? You are untangling them and trying to plug them into your phone when you feel someone plop down next to you.
Yeonjun smiles at you, before taking a bite of his pizza slice. You raise your eyebrows at him.
âWhat are you doing here?â You ask him.
âKeeping you company?â he replies and you roll your eyes. You look around and notice half the people from your year staring at the both of you.
âItâs like having Princess Diana sit next to youâ you mutter and Yeonjun chuckles. Taehyun and Soobin sit down opposite to you. They both give you awkward smiles and you smile back at them.
âWhat happened to your friend ?â Soobin asks.
âOh⊠Ryujins visiting her grandmotherâ you reply putting your earphones back into your pocket and starting on your lunch.
âAre you guys studying today too?â Taehyun asks you.
âNoâ Yeonjun mumbles with his mouthful.
âI have work todayâ you add.
âAhh⊠you work at Jins Diner donât you?â Soobin asks you.
âYeah⊠how do you know?â You ask him curiously.
âBeomgyu has told me about youâ Soobin replies.
âReally and what-â
âWho is Beomgyu?â Yeonjun asks Soobin. âWhy didnât you tell me about this before?â
âIs he supposed to inform you about everything ?â You question.
âUh⊠he is a friend of mine, we used to go to the same school beforeâ Soobin tells Yeonjun.
âAnd how does this Beomgyu know you?â Yeonjun asks you.
You raise your eyebrow at his tone and he coughs a little, âObviously a coworkerâ you tell him.
âAhhâ Yeonjun says before going back to his food.
âBeomgyu tells me you are scary to work withâ Soobin chuckles.
âOh well, if he wasnât so fucking clueless all the time maybe Iâd be nicer to himâ you huff out.
âThat must be why you always look mad at Yeonjun tooâ Taehyun tells you in a matter of fact tone and you canât help but smile
âIs it?â Yeonjun asks you with his mouthful.
âVery much soâ you tell him and Yeonjun gives you a push while Taehyun and Soobin try to cover their smiles.
Maybe its not so bad. Having friends, you think.
-.-
Even though you hated to admit it you and Yeonjun had fallen into a routine. Even Ryujin seemed to have adopted Taehyun and Soobin as her own and more often than not you all had lunch together. It was the closest you ever had to something resembling a family.
Studying with Yeonjun also became easier, he would do whatever you told him to do and you would carry on with your assignments helping him out whenever. You could see how prejudiced you had been about him now.
Yeonjun looked intimidating and kind of had that bad-boy vibe but the more time you spend with him, the more you could see how much of a goofball he was. You felt bad for avoiding him for almost half of the year.
Yeonjun hadnât felt this emotionally attached to anyone. Being with you, even sitting next to you and watching you puzzle over problems made him feel so much at ease.
People usually discarded him after getting what they wanted and he had people telling him that he was being childish and cringe when he was being himself, but with you it felt like he could just be. The most youâd do would be, roll your eyes or tell him a sarcastic comment, but usually you didnât seem to mind him at all.
Yeonjun could see how hard you worked and he could only imagine how difficult your life had been up until this point, but despite your tough exterior he could see the softness the world had still not managed to harden over. He wished youâd let go sometimes and ease up but he knew it wasnât that easy for you.
Yeonjun loved making you laugh. Seeing you laugh made him crack up too. He especially loved the moment where you would lean into him, unable to sit straight from your giggles. It was rare but he always tried to make it happen.
âI forgot to say, a funny thing happened todayâ you tell him, remembering the event at class and looking up at him. Yeonjun seemed distracted and was staring at you with a stupid grin on his face.
You wave a hand at him and he shakes himself out of his daze, âUh⊠sorry, what happenedâ
âYeah⊠Lia talked to me todayâ you tell him a smile playing on your lips. âYou know Lia right?â
âWho doesnât know her?â Yeonjun mutters.
âUhuh she asked me if I could set her up with youâ you tell him breaking off into unable to keep your smile contained. Yeonjun looks at you, not amused.
âAnd what did you tell her?â He asks you, his tone serious and you feel a bit intimidated.
âI said Iâll tryâ you reply shrugging your shoulders and going back to your work. You glance back at him and he is staring at you with an unreadable expression.
âWhat? Itâs not like Iâm actually going to set you up with herâ you tell him and the intensity of his gaze drops a little.
âWhy not?â Yeonjun asks you his tone a little playful.
âLike I have that kind of time to be doing match makingâ you scoff, âMaybe if she pays me Iâd think about itâ you joke.
âFuck youâ Yeonjun tells you in a small voice and you look at him again. He looks hurt.
And you are surprised that it makes you feel a little uncomfortable to see him like this.
âI- Iâm sorryâ you tell him and he looks at you, âI didnât mean to offend you and you know bviously you are free to be with whoever you want to be with I was just playing with you, Iâm sorry if I hurt your feelingsâ you add earnestly.
Yeonjun tsks at you, âThat is not what I-â a loud bout of thunder hits the sky, even rattling your windows a little. You get up and are about to close the windows when another one hits. The smell of rain hangs heavy in the air and you look outside to see that the sky has darkened over.
âI didnât realise how much time has passed byâ you say to Yeonjun closing the windows and turning to look at him. He sits rooted to his spot.
âPlease donât tell me you are afraid of thunderâ you tell him, holding the bridge of your nose.
âUhâŠâ he tells you eyes wide with fear.
âOh godâ you mutter as another one hits and this time your house plunges into darkness, the electricity being cut. You fumble around for your phone when you feel long arms wrap around you.
âWha-â you start.
âPlease⊠Iâm scaredâ Yeonjun tells you hugging you tightly against him. You stand there in surprise as he buries his neck into your shoulder while the lightening lights up the sky outside, his hands around you while yours hang limply by your side.
Slowly you bring up yours, wrapping them around his torso and patting his back gently as thunder continues to rumble outside.
âShh- itâs alright, itâs just thunderâ you tell him softly.
âMmhmmâ Yeonjun murmurs into your neck and you have to hold yourself very still to not shiver at his touch. Yeonjun was all muscle and warmth and the way he hugged you made you feel like you were the most important person to him. You canât remember the last time someoneâs hugged you like this, always pushing away Ryujins attempts at affection. It was like learning how to breathe again.
âUh⊠Jun, let me get the candlesâ you whisper to him, trying to loosen his hold on you.
âIâll come along with youâ he replies holding onto your waist and you resist your urge to laugh, afraid of hurting his feelings.
âAlrightâ you tell him and turn on your phones flashlight making your way to the kitchen as Yeonjun follows along, holding onto you like a koala.
You open up the cabinet above the sink while he rests his head on your shoulder picking up the candles.
âGot themâ you inform him. Youâd be lying if you said that his touches had no effect on you but you forced yourself to ignore them. You were terrified of the person youâd be if you lowered your walls to him. If you didnât let yourself feel anything, nobody could hurt you right?
Yeonjun and you make your way over to the couch again and you light the candles while he continues to hover over your shoulder.
âAll better now, no?â You ask him turning around in his hold.
Yeonjun nods his head and you hear the rain starting outside. He lets you go, grabbing hold of your hand and you both sit down on your couch. Yeonjun pulls you closer to him wrapping his arm around your shoulder as you watch the rain from your seat.
âItâs almost 7.30â you whisper to him, the atmosphere making you talk in hushed tones.
âUhuhâ Yeonjun replies and you turn to look at him.
âLet your mother know youâll be late, sheâll be worriedâ you tell him.
âShe is out of townâ Yeonjun tells you, âItâs alrightâ he adds when he sees your expression.
âOhâ you say, fidgeting around his hold, not used to being so close to others.
âY/NâŠâ Yeonjun drawls out and you look at him again.
âDonât set me up with other peopleâ he mutters making you smile.
âI canât set you up with others against your willâ you remind him.
âNo, but donât try toâ he tells you running his hands across your arms.
âLike youâd listen to meâ you laugh.
âI willâ he insists and something about the way he looks at you makes him believable.
âAlso you are calling me Jun from now onâ
-.-
