Platform Feature - White Light Collective
Facilitated by the border-breaking of the internet, the international collective (no artist coming from the same country) is diverse in aesthetic and membership. Their lack of shared, overt agenda means that they can have a more simple form of collaboration, each photographer being an individual among individuals, each affecting each other’s’ practice. By exhibiting together they make the body of work richer.
They are a new group, and their work does not cohere as well as it could when they are seen together, but it is positive because their style will not stagnate in an echo chamber and will still grow from what is already good.

Here we are :)
Today we introduce Kansas-based film photographer Jeffrey Mckee. He’s working as a graphic designer. “There’s not really a message to my photographs. I like to shoot photos with interesting people, of which I’ve been very lucky to know quite a lot of them. Typically, I’ll have a camera with me; if there is something that feels interesting I’ll try to get a photo of it”. More of his work here.

Today we introduce Ahmed Makhlouf. He is a Tunisian photographer based in Sfax (Tunisia), interested in elevating the mundane into the epic by photographing hints of everyday-life. It is his belief that art has always celebrated the extraordinary, and nothing is more extraordinary than the small battles one undergoes on a daily basis.

This week, we will introduce our collective members to you, one by one. Today we start with an Indonesian based photographer, Asrul Dwi . He uses photography as a medium to explore the psychological unknown, as well as his own reality and environment. He experiments with the photograph as a physical document, analyzing its visual layers and narratives.

Exhibit theme is Safari. SAFARI In Swahili, the term “safari” refers to a journey, coming from the Arabic verb safar, meaning “to go on a journey.” Despite its historical origins the term has gone through a natural evolution to its use today. With the development of global tourism the term is increasingly defined as a form of organized recreation and leisure through admiring and photographing natural beauty. But, safari is not only a part of the tourism industry. From our visions of colonialism to the fashion industry, the works of Ernest Hemingway to Hollywood films, the style of the safari has infiltrated our lives. Nevertheless, the quintessential safari can still result in coming face to face with a disturbing and exotic natural world. It can be anywhere from an urban cityscape to a vast open terrain. A safari is a guarantee of unique experiences and memories—the space, the peace, the quiet, and the opportunity to commune with nature.
